Reverse recruiter software that proves every application
If you work as a reverse recruiter, SoundCV runs your whole client list from one workspace. Fill applications with Auto Apply, let each client’s inbox update their board, and send every client a weekly report of what you sent and what came back.
- Weekly target per client
- Interview invites caught with the date
- Portal link, no client login
- Appliers see only their clients
What is a reverse recruiter?
A reverse recruiter is hired by the job seeker, not the employer. The job is to get one person interviews, across many companies, week after week.
Reverse recruiting turns the usual arrangement around. A traditional recruiter is paid by a company to fill a role and looks at many candidates. A reverse recruiter is paid by a candidate to find them a role and looks at many companies. People also call it a job search service, a job hunting service, or a job application service.
The client usually hires one because their time is short. They may be working full time, relocating, or tired of spending evenings on forms. When someone searches for a way to “apply to jobs for me” or to hire someone to apply for jobs, a reverse recruiter is who they find.
The work is part research, part writing and part admin. You match roles to a client brief, send tailored applications, watch for interview invites, follow up, and show the client what happened. SoundCV is built for the admin and the applying, so more of your week goes to judgment calls.
How do reverse recruiters work, day to day?
The same four steps repeat for every client. SoundCV gives each step a place, so nothing lives in your head or a side spreadsheet.
Write the client brief
Target roles, locations, workplace, salary target, visa sponsorship, companies to avoid and a weekly application target, saved in the client’s settings.
Find and fill applications
Search jobs for the client, or run Find new matches. Auto Apply fills each supported employer form and waits for your review.
Let replies update the pipeline
Employer emails forwarded from the client’s inbox create applications, move interview invites to Interviewing and mark rejections.
Show the client the results
A private portal link and a progress report every 7 days show applications, interviews and offers, without you writing a word.
A reverse recruiting agency workspace, client by client
Choose a client in the top bar and the whole workspace switches to them. These are the pieces you use most.
Weekly application target
Set a target per client and watch applied-this-week against it on the agency overview. Clients who are behind stand out on Monday, not on Friday.
Auto Apply for each client
Find new matches prepares up to 20 filled applications ranked on title, skills and location. It reads each employer’s real form and writes a cover letter when asked.
Saved answers
Answer “Are you willing to relocate?” once for a client and it is saved. SoundCV fills it into every waiting application that asks, and into later ones too.
Job search per client
Search open roles with filters for pay, job type, workplace and date posted. See match details against the client’s resume, then save the job to their tracker.
Resumes and cover letters
Upload the client’s PDF or Word resume into an editable copy, or build one. Create a tailored resume copy or cover letter for a single job without touching the original.
Follow-ups drafted for you
Applications with no reply get an AI-drafted follow-up email you can edit and send, so the follow-up step happens for every client, not just the loudest one.
Onboarding a new client? Check your resume score for their current resume before you apply. Fixing it first lifts every application that follows.
Check a resumeHow reverse recruiters track applications and show clients results
Clients judge a reverse recruiting service on what they can see. SoundCV turns the replies in their inbox into a record they can open any time.
Tracking from the client’s inbox
Each client gets a tracking address. One Gmail filter or Outlook rule forwards job emails, and it works wherever you applied: company sites, job boards or referrals.
Interview invites never missed
An invite moves the application to Interviewing with the date, and it appears under upcoming interviews on the agency overview and in the client’s report.
A client portal with no login
A private, read-only link shows the client every application and status. Replace the link or turn it off whenever you need to.
A progress report every 7 days
This week’s applications against target, interviews, offers and upcoming dates, emailed to the client. Replies come straight back to you.
Reverse recruiter vs recruiter: who works for whom?
Both work in hiring, from opposite sides. Knowing the difference helps you explain your service to a client in one sentence.
| Reverse recruiter | Traditional recruiter | |
|---|---|---|
| Client | The job seeker | The hiring company |
| Usually paid by | The job seeker | The hiring company |
| Goal | Interviews and an offer for one person | The best candidate for one role |
| Applies to jobs on the candidate’s behalf | ||
| Looks across many employers for one person | ||
| Sources many candidates for one role | ||
| Reports progress to | The job seeker | The employer |
A recruiter may still call your client about a role, and that is good news for everyone. The difference is loyalty and scope. Your client is paying you to look across the whole market for them, so your records, reports and follow-ups are organised around one person and many employers.
How much does a reverse recruiter cost?
Prices vary widely between services, and we do not quote market rates here. What you can control is what drives the price and how clearly you explain it.
Pricing model
A monthly fee, a fee per application, a success fee on placement, or a mix. Each model shifts risk between you and the client in a different way.
Weekly target
More applications per week means more hours. Put the agreed number in the client’s settings so both sides can see it being met.
Tailoring depth
A tailored cover letter and resume copy for each job takes longer than sending one resume everywhere, and it usually earns more interviews.
Seniority and length
Senior searches often target fewer roles with more care, and run longer. Many services price these differently from entry-level searches.
Whatever you charge, weekly proof makes the price easier to accept. A client who opens their portal and sees applications, interview invites and follow-ups understands what their fee pays for.
How many applications should a reverse recruiter send per week?
Enough to keep the pipeline moving, and no more than you can tailor well. The interview rate tells you whether the number is right.
Start by agreeing a weekly application target with each client and saving it in their brief. The agency overview then shows applied-this-week against that target for everyone, so you can spread the week’s work across clients instead of catching up on Friday.
Then watch the interview rate on each client’s overview. If it drops as volume rises, the extra applications are not landing. Slow down, tighten the target roles, or fix the resume. The overview also shows which resume version gets interviews and the likely reasons applications fail, estimated from job descriptions, resumes and employer emails.
How to scale a reverse recruiting business
Growing from five clients to fifty is mostly about removing work that only you know how to do. These are the steps that make that possible.
Put every brief in the same format
When target roles, locations, salary and companies to avoid live in each client’s settings, any team member can pick up a client and apply correctly on day one.
Hire appliers and assign clients
Invite team members by email as appliers. Each applier sees only the clients assigned to them, while managers see everyone and move work around.
Let saved answers do the repetition
Every answer a client gives once, such as notice period or relocation, is saved and reused. A new applier does not need to ask the client again.
Automate the weekly report
Turn on the automatic progress report for each active client. Reporting stops being a Friday task that grows with every new client.
Keep one queue for unclear emails
Needs review collects every email the system is not sure about, across all clients. One person can clear it in a few minutes a day.
Mark placements and free the slot
When a client accepts an offer, set their status to placed. Placed clients stop counting toward your active client limit and keep their history.
Are reverse recruiters worth it for job seekers?
Your clients will ask this, and a straight answer builds trust. Here is when the service pays off and when it does not.
Usually worth it when
- The job seeker’s resume already gets interviews and time is the limit.
- They are employed and cannot spend evenings on application forms.
- They want a steady weekly rhythm and a clear record of what was sent.
- Their target roles have a healthy number of openings to apply to.
Less useful when
- The resume or target roles are the real problem, not the hours.
- The job seeker wants to write every answer and cover letter personally.
- The search is for a handful of very specific roles at named companies.
- There is no agreed way to see progress, so the work stays invisible.
Job seekers who prefer to do it themselves can use the same engine on their own account with Auto Apply and the job application tracker. Services that also coach or write resumes will find more on the For Agencies overview.
Start free, grow to 50 active clients
The free trial covers up to 3 active clients, enough to run real searches before you commit. A paid SoundCV plan on the owner’s account raises the limit to 50 active clients, and placed clients never count. Auto Apply uses the owner’s credits: 5 for each submitted application, refunded automatically if it could not be sent. Dedicated agency plans are coming soon.
See plans and creditsYou stay in control of every submission
Your name is on every application you send for a client. These rules keep it that way.
A person presses Submit
Auto Apply fills forms and waits. You or your team review and send each application.
No job-board logins
Applications go through the employer’s own form, never through a client’s job-board account.
Consent is never ticked
Privacy and terms boxes are left for a person. Diversity questions default to decline to self-identify.
Questions only the client can answer
Anything the setup cannot answer is marked. Ask the client once, and the answer is saved.
Questions about reverse recruiting
What is a reverse recruiter?+
A reverse recruiter is a professional a job seeker hires to run their job search. Where a traditional recruiter works for employers to fill roles, a reverse recruiter works for the candidate. They agree target roles, find matching openings, send applications, track replies and often handle follow-ups, while the job seeker attends the interviews and decides on offers.
How do reverse recruiters work?+
Most start with a client brief: target roles, locations, salary and companies to avoid. They then search for openings, tailor the resume and cover letter where it helps, and send a set number of applications each week. They watch the client’s inbox for interview invites and rejections, send follow-ups, and report progress to the client regularly.
How much does a reverse recruiter cost?+
It varies widely, so compare what is included rather than headline prices. Services charge a monthly fee, a fee per application, a success fee on placement, or a mix. The price usually depends on the weekly application target, how much each application is tailored, the seniority of the roles, and how long the search runs.
Are reverse recruiters worth it?+
They are worth it when your time is the bottleneck and your resume already gets interviews. A good service saves hours of searching and form filling each week. They are less useful when the resume or target roles are the real problem, because more applications with a weak resume rarely produce more interviews. Ask for weekly reporting before you sign.
How many applications should a reverse recruiter send per week?+
There is no single right number. Agree a weekly application target the service can tailor well, then judge it by the interview rate rather than the volume. A senior client aiming at a narrow set of roles may need fewer, more careful applications than a graduate applying broadly. Review the target after the first few weeks.
What tools do reverse recruiters use?+
Common tools include job boards, a resume builder, a cover letter tool, a spreadsheet or tracker, and the client’s email inbox. SoundCV brings these into one workspace per client: job search, resumes, Auto Apply for supported employer forms, a job tracker fed by forwarded employer emails, a client portal and weekly progress reports.
Can a reverse recruiter apply on my behalf?+
Yes, that is the core of the service. You share your resume and preferences, and the reverse recruiter fills and sends applications with your details. You should agree which roles and companies are in scope, how you will see progress, and who answers questions only you can answer, such as reasons for leaving or availability.
How do reverse recruiters track applications?+
Many use a spreadsheet per client and copy replies in by hand. In SoundCV each client has a board, and a forwarding filter on their inbox sends job emails to a tracking address. Confirmations create applications, interview invites move them to Interviewing with the date, and rejections are marked. Unclear emails wait in Needs review.
Do I need my clients’ email passwords?+
No. Each client has a tracking address, and one Gmail filter or Outlook rule in their inbox forwards job emails to it. The client can set it up, or you can if you manage an inbox for their search. SoundCV never asks for a password and only receives the emails the filter selects.
How does SoundCV help avoid duplicate applications?+
When you log an application to a company the client applied to within the last 60 days, SoundCV warns you and asks before adding it. Find new matches also skips jobs it already prepared for that client and never picks to companies on the client’s avoid list, so two appliers working on one client do not send the same application twice.
