For outplacement firms and HR teams

Outplacement services with progress you can show

Outplacement services work when the job search itself gets done, every week, for every person. SoundCV gives your team one workspace to build each person’s resume, apply to jobs, track every employer reply, and send weekly progress reports, while you see the whole cohort at a glance.

  • One workspace per firm or HR team
  • A private tracker for each person
  • Weekly report to every employee

Why it matters

Why companies offer outplacement after layoffs

Outplacement is job search support an employer pays for when roles are cut. Done well, it helps people move on faster and shows the people who stay that the company treats leavers fairly.

Layoffs land hard on the people who leave, and they are watched closely by the people who stay. Offering outplacement alongside severance tells both groups that the company takes the transition seriously. It also protects the employer brand, because former employees talk about how their exit was handled.

Traditional outplacement leans on coaching: a few sessions, a resume review and a workshop on interviews. That help matters, but the hard part comes after it. Someone has to find suitable roles, tailor the resume, send applications every week and keep track of what came back.

That is the gap SoundCV fills. It is not an outplacement firm and it does not replace your coaches. It is the platform your firm or HR team uses to do the job search work for each person and prove it is happening.

What’s included

What do outplacement services include?

Most outplacement programs combine guidance with practical job search support. Here is what each part usually covers and where SoundCV fits in.

Career guidance and coaching

A coach helps each person take stock, decide what to aim for next, and stay steady through the search. This stays with your coaches. SoundCV keeps their notes and the person’s brief in one place.

Resume writing

Build a resume from scratch or upload the person’s PDF or Word file and edit it. Keep a separate resume for each direction they are exploring, and see later which one gets interviews.

Finding the right roles

Search open jobs by title, location, pay, workplace and date posted for each person. Match details show how their resume fits a role and what is missing before you apply.

Applications, sent every week

Apply wherever the job is listed, or use Auto Apply on supported jobs. Each person gets a weekly target, and the overview shows who is on pace and who has fallen behind.

Interview coaching

Interview invites move a job to Interviewing with the date, so your coaches know exactly when to schedule a practice session. Upcoming interviews show across the whole cohort.

Progress reporting

Each person gets a private progress page and a weekly email. HR and program leads see applications, responses, interviews, offers and placements for everyone.

How it works

Run an outplacement program from one workspace

Set up each departing employee as a client in a couple of minutes. After that, the tracker keeps itself current from the replies employers send.

1

Add each person

Create a client for every departing employee with their target roles, locations, salary target and a weekly application target.

2

Connect their job emails

Each person gets a tracking address. One Gmail filter or Outlook rule forwards job emails to it, and nothing else.

3

Build resumes and apply

Your team writes the resume, searches jobs, and applies. Every application lands on that person’s tracker.

4

Report every week

A progress email goes to each person every 7 days while they are active, with a link to their private page.

Once a person’s emails are connected, confirmations from employers create applications, interview invites move them to Interviewing with the date, and rejections are marked. Emails the system is not sure about wait in a Needs review queue, so nothing on the tracker changes until someone on your team confirms it.

Add the former employer to the person’s list of companies to avoid, and SoundCV will never apply there for them. If your team tries to apply to the same company twice for one person in a short time, you get a duplicate warning first.

For HR teams

Outplacement assistance your HR team can run itself

Not every company hires an outplacement firm. If your HR team delivers support in-house, these are the parts SoundCV takes off its plate.

See who needs attention

The agency overview shows applications this week against each person’s target, responses, interviews, offers, people with no reply for 21 days or more, and people who have not connected their email yet.

Split the work across your team

Invite colleagues as Managers, who see every person, or Appliers, who see only the people assigned to them. Each person has one named team member responsible for them.

Apply faster on supported jobs

Auto Apply fills employer application forms from the person’s resume and saved answers. Your team reviews each one before it is sent, and consent boxes are never ticked automatically.

Follow up on silence

Applications with no reply are listed for follow-up, with a drafted follow-up email your team can edit and send. Quiet weeks turn into a clear list of actions.

Progress reports

Weekly reports that show people their search is moving

Job search after a layoff often feels like shouting into a void. A short weekly summary changes that.

Each person gets a private, read-only progress page. It opens from a link, with no account or password to remember, and shows their applications, replies and upcoming interviews. You can replace the link at any time if it is shared by mistake.

The weekly progress report goes out by email every 7 days while the person is active, or on demand whenever you want to send one. It lists this week’s numbers, any interviews coming up, and the link to their progress page. When you mark someone as placed or paused, the automatic reports stop.

For HR, the same numbers roll up into the agency overview. You can answer “How is the program going?” with applications, interviews and placements instead of a count of sessions delivered.

Compare

Choosing an outplacement firm, platform, or spreadsheet

Most outplacement companies bring the coaching. What differs is how the day-to-day job search is run and reported. Here is how the common setups compare.

These options work together. An outplacement firm can run its whole delivery on SoundCV, keeping its coaching and adding a real job search behind it. An HR team can pair an external coaching provider with SoundCV for applications and tracking. Either way, the progress data lives in one place instead of in each coach’s inbox.

Guide

How to offer outplacement to laid off employees

Outplacement services for laid off employees only help if people take them up and keep using them. These steps make the offer easy to accept and hard to forget.

1

Announce outplacement with the severance details

Put the outplacement program in the same meeting and the same letter as severance, with a named contact and a start date. People take in little on the day of a layoff, so a written summary they can reread matters more than the conversation.

2

Book a short intake within the first week

A 20–30 minute intake call captures target roles, locations, salary expectations and any visa or notice constraints. Enter it straight into the person’s brief so the job search can start that week, not the week after.

3

Fix the resume before anything else

Most people leaving a long tenure have an old resume. Rebuild it for the roles they want next, then check it against the kind of screening software employers use. The free resume score checker shows what a parser misses.

4

Set a weekly application target

Agree a realistic number with each person, often somewhere between 5 and 15 well-matched applications a week depending on the field. A target turns a vague search into something both sides can see and track.

5

Connect their job emails early

The tracker only knows what employers send back. Ask each person to add the forwarding filter in the intake call, so confirmations, interview invites and rejections start flowing in from the first application.

6

Review progress every week, not at the end

Look at the overview once a week. People with no applications, no replies for 21 days or more, or no connected email need a call from their coach, not a note in the final report.

Measure placement rate, not sessions delivered

An outplacement program is judged on whether people find work. Activity numbers tell you early whether they will.

Placement rate is the share of people who start a new role within the program term. It is the number leadership asks for, but it arrives late. Interview rate, responses per application, and applications against target tell you in week two whether a person’s search is on track.

SoundCV shows these for each person and for the whole cohort. Each client’s overview adds which resume gets interviews and the likely reasons applications fail, based on the job description, the resume that was sent and the employer’s wording. Those reasons are estimates and are labelled as estimates.

Mark a person as placed when they accept an offer. Their record stays, their reports stop, and they no longer count toward your active clients. Counting placed people against the cohort gives you a placement rate you can defend.

Privacy

Privacy for people between jobs

People in outplacement are sharing their job search with their former employer’s program. That trust needs clear limits.

Nobody on your team logs in to a person’s inbox. The person adds one filter that forwards job emails to their own tracking address, and only the emails that filter selects are sent. They can remove the filter at any time and forwarding stops.

The progress page is read-only and shows only that person’s own search. Appliers on your team see only the people assigned to them. For more on how data is stored and handled, read the security page or talk to us about your program’s requirements.

No passwords shared

Tracking runs on forwarded emails, not inbox access.

Access by assignment

Consent stays theirs

Pricing

How much do outplacement services cost?

Outplacement services cost what the program includes. The biggest drivers are how long each person has access, how many one-on-one coaching hours are included, the seniority of the people supported, and whether delivery is in person, in groups or virtual. SoundCV covers the job search platform part: start free with up to 3 active clients, and a paid SoundCV plan raises that to 50. FAQ

Questions about outplacement services

What are outplacement services?+

Outplacement services are job search support an employer pays for when it lets people go, usually after layoffs or a restructure. A provider or an internal HR team helps each person with career guidance, resume writing, interview coaching, networking and applications. The aim is to shorten the time between leaving one job and starting the next.

What do outplacement services include?+

Most programs include some mix of career counseling, skills and interest assessment, resume and LinkedIn rewriting, interview preparation, networking guidance, salary negotiation advice, and help finding and applying to roles. Delivery can be one-on-one sessions, group workshops, online tools, or a combination. Higher-level programs usually add more individual coaching time.

How much do outplacement services cost?+

Cost depends on the length of the program, the level of the people being supported, how much one-on-one coaching is included, and whether it is delivered in person, in groups or online. Executive outplacement with long individual coaching costs more per person than a short group program. Ask providers for a per-person quote with the exact hours included.

Are outplacement services worth it?+

They are worth it when people actually use them and the support leads to interviews. For employees, outplacement gives structure at a stressful time. For employers, it can soften the impact of layoffs on remaining staff and on the employer brand. The value falls quickly if the program stops at a workshop and nobody follows the search.

How long do outplacement services last?+

Programs have a set term that ranges from a few weeks of access to a year or more. Shorter terms are common for group programs and online tools, while executive programs often run longer. The right length depends on how long a job search in that role and location usually takes, which varies widely.

What is virtual outplacement?+

Virtual outplacement delivers the same support online instead of in an office: video coaching sessions, online workshops, resume tools, job search platforms and progress tracking. It lets a provider support people in many locations at once and lets employees work on their search on their own schedule. Many programs now mix virtual and live coaching.

How do you choose an outplacement provider?+

Ask what each person actually receives: coaching hours, resume work, help applying, and how long access lasts. Ask how progress is measured and reported, and whether you will see results across the whole group. Check how the provider handles personal data, and whether support fits every level, from hourly roles to executives.

Do employees have to accept outplacement?+

Usually no. Outplacement is offered as a benefit, often alongside severance, and each person decides whether to use it. Some people start their search right away, others take time first, and some already have an offer. Making the first step easy, such as a short intake call, tends to increase how many people take it up.

How do you measure outplacement results?+

Track activity and outcomes for each person. Activity means applications sent against a weekly target and follow-ups. Outcomes mean responses, interviews, offers and placements. Placement rate, the share of people who start a new role within the program term, is the headline number, but interview rate shows earlier whether the search is working.

Is SoundCV an outplacement firm?+

No. SoundCV is software that outplacement firms and HR teams use to deliver the job search part of a program. Your team builds resumes, applies to jobs and tracks replies for each person inside a shared workspace. The coaching, the relationship and the program design stay with your firm or your HR team.
