Resume writing software that shows which resume gets interviews
SoundCV is resume writing software for independent writers and resume businesses. You write in our builder and templates, keep every client’s resumes in their own workspace, and see which version gets interviews once the client starts applying.
- One workspace per client
- Upload a client’s Word or PDF resume
- Interview rate for each version
- Add tracking and reports to any package
What software do professional resume writers use?
Most resume writers run their business on four or five separate tools. Each one does a job, and none of them talk to each other.
A typical setup is a word processor for drafting, a design template for layout, a PDF export, a spreadsheet of clients, and an email thread per client for revisions. That works for ten clients a month. At thirty, you spend more time finding the right file than writing.
The bigger gap comes after delivery. Once the PDF leaves your inbox, you rarely learn whether it earned interviews. A client who goes quiet might be happy, or might be stuck. Without data, every testimonial you ask for is a guess.
SoundCV brings the writing and the results together. You write in the same builder job seekers use, with its templates, AI review and resume score. Each client gets a workspace with their resumes and job applications, so you can see which version the market actually answers.
From client intake to proven results in four steps
Adding a client takes a couple of minutes. After that, the resume, the applications and the replies all live in the same place.
Add the client
Create a client with their name, email and brief: target roles, locations, salary target and companies to avoid.
Write or upload the resume
Build a new resume from a template, or upload their current PDF or Word file and we turn it into an editable resume.
Deliver the final version
Check the resume score, fix what the AI review flags, then download the PDF or send a share link.
Track what it earns
Their job emails forward to a tracking address. Interviews are counted for each resume version you wrote.
Write every client resume in one builder
It is the same resume builder job seekers use on their own. As a resume writer, you get it with a client workspace around it.
Templates with an ATS filter
Choose from simple, modern, two-column, one-page and creative designs. The ATS filter narrows the gallery to designs that parse cleanly. Fonts, margins, colours and section order can all be changed.
Upload the client’s old resume
Drop in the PDF or Word file the client sends at intake. SoundCV reads it into an editable resume, so you start from their facts instead of retyping dates and job titles.
Resume score and AI review
The AI review scores ATS compatibility, content and format, then lists the sections to fix. Check your resume score before delivery and keep a record of how far the rewrite moved it.
AI writing help
Build a first draft by chatting through the client’s background, or open the AI Writer inside a section for suggested wording. You stay the writer; the AI speeds up the blank page.
PDF, text and share link
Download a PDF in the chosen template, export plain text for online forms, email the PDF straight to the client, or turn on a public share link for that resume.
Tailored copies per job
From the client’s Jobs tab, “Improve my resume” makes a tailored copy for a specific posting. The original is never changed, so your master version stays clean.
Want to see the designs first? Browse the resume templates, or try the AI resume builder the way a job seeker would. Cover letters come from the cover letter builder.
How to prove a resume works with real replies
Clients hire a resume writer to get interviews. These features turn “I think it went well” into numbers you can show.
Interview rate for each resume
Each application records which resume was sent, and you can set it on any application, including ones created from email. The client’s Overview shows the interview rate per version, so v1 and your rewrite sit side by side.
Replies logged from forwarded email
Each client gets their own tracking address and one Gmail filter or Outlook rule. Confirmations create applications, interview invites move them to Interviewing with the date, and rejections are marked for you.
A private client portal
Send a read-only link with no login. It shows applications, replies, interview rate and upcoming interviews. It never shows email contents or your internal notes, and you can replace or switch off the link at any time.
A weekly progress report
Send a progress email on demand, or let it go out every 7 days while the client is active. It lists this week’s numbers and upcoming interviews, with the portal link, so the client hears from you without you writing it.
How to offer job search support as a resume writer
The document is where most resume writing services stop. The client’s job search is where they start needing help.
A resume is one part of a search that often runs for two to four months. Clients who pay for professional resume writing services usually want more support in those months, and many would pay for it. The work that follows the document is also easier to repeat than the writing itself.
SoundCV lets you sell that support without new tools. Interview tracking and the weekly report run from the client’s tracking address. Applications can be prepared with Auto Apply and paid for with your credits, 5 per sent application, refunded if one could not be sent. You review every application before it goes.
Try the builder on the right. Pick the add-ons you might offer and see what the client receives and what you would do in SoundCV to deliver it.
Tap an add-on to include it. The document is always part of the package.
- A rewritten resume as a PDF, plus a share link if they want one
- A cover letter that matches the new resume
- A private portal link with applications, replies and interviews
- An email every 7 days with this week’s numbers and interviews
- 1Write in the builder, run the AI review, download the PDF
- 2Write it in the cover letter builder, or per job from the client’s Jobs tab
- 3Give them a tracking address; one Gmail filter forwards job emails
- 4Switch on the automatic progress report for the client

Resume writing software vs files and spreadsheets
Word files and a client spreadsheet cost nothing and work for a small practice. Here is where a workspace built for client work changes the day.
| SoundCV workspace | Word files + spreadsheet | |

| Templates, design and PDF in one place | Separate tools | |

How to start a resume writing business that lasts
General guidance from how writing practices tend to grow. Your market and niche will shape the details.
Choose a niche you can write for with authority
A resume writer who knows nursing, software or finance writes faster and better than a generalist. Pick one or two fields where you understand the job titles, tools, keywords and results that hiring managers look for. Executive resume writing services are a niche of their own, with longer documents and board-level language.
Build three to five sample resumes
Write samples for realistic, anonymised people in your niche. Show one before-and-after pair so prospects see how you think. Keep each sample as its own version in SoundCV, then download the PDFs for your website and LinkedIn profile.
Design packages rather than hourly rates
Most clients compare packages, not hours. A common structure is a resume-only tier, a tier with a cover letter and LinkedIn profile, and a tier with support after delivery, such as interview tracking or a weekly report. Set prices from what writers in your niche charge, and review them as results come in.
Run a short, repeatable intake
Ask for the current resume, target roles, locations, salary target, companies to avoid, and three achievements with numbers. In SoundCV this becomes the client brief in Settings, next to their resumes, so anyone on your team can pick the file up.
Agree on revisions before you start
State how many revision rounds a package includes and how long the client has to request them. Keeping each round as a new version makes the history clear if the client later asks what changed and why.
Collect results, then ask for reviews
Ask each client to forward job emails to their tracking address for the first weeks after delivery. When interviews arrive, you have a natural moment to ask for a review, and a real interview rate to mention when you do.
Starting with a new client? Check your resume score free on their current resume at intake. The score gives you a baseline to compare against when you deliver the rewrite.
Check a resumeBuilt for the freelance resume writer and growing teams
Whether you write alone, run a resume writing business with several writers, or hold a credential alongside other certified professional resume writers, the workspace fits how you already sell.
Freelance resume writers
Keep every client’s resumes, notes and versions in one place. Start with three clients free and add tracking to your top package.
Resume writing businesses
Invite writers as team members. Appliers see only the clients assigned to them, and managers see every client and every result.
Executive resume writers
Longer engagements, fewer clients, higher stakes. A weekly report and a private portal keep senior clients informed without extra calls.
Resume consultants and editors
For resume editing services and quick reviews, upload the client’s file, run the AI review, edit, and send back a clean PDF.
How to manage resume clients without mixing files
The workspace is separate from your personal SoundCV account, and every client has their own space inside it.
A client picker in the top bar switches the whole workspace to one person. Their Resumes tab holds every version you wrote for them, and client resumes do not count toward your personal resume limit. Their Settings hold the brief, the status (active, paused or placed), the assigned team member, and your notes.
When the job search ends, mark the client as placed. They drop out of your active count, so a paid plan’s 50 active clients means 50 people you are working with now, not everyone you have ever helped. Deleting a client removes their applications, tracking address and received-email records.
Choosing between a resume builder service and a hand-written document is not a question here. You still write every word. The builder handles layout, scoring and export so your time goes into the writing that clients pay a resume writer for.
Client picker
One click switches every tab to the chosen client.
Access by role
Owner, Manager and Applier roles, invited by email.
Portal, not passwords
Clients never log in to your workspace.
Brief next to the resume
Target roles, salary and companies to avoid.
What does SoundCV cost for resume writers?
You can try the agency workspace with up to 3 active clients for free. A paid SoundCV plan on your account raises the limit to 50 active clients, and clients you mark as placed do not count. Dedicated agency plans are coming soon. Personal plans start from $1.99 a day.

What software do professional resume writers use?+
Most professional resume writers combine a word processor for drafting, a design tool or template for layout, a PDF exporter, and a spreadsheet or CRM to track clients. SoundCV puts the writing, templates, resume score, PDF download and client records in one place, and adds tracking that shows how each resume performs after delivery.
How do I start a resume writing business?+
Pick a niche you know, such as tech, healthcare or executive roles, and write three to five sample resumes to show your style. Decide on a small set of packages, set up a simple intake form, and choose one tool for writing and client records. Early clients often come from your own network and LinkedIn.
How do I manage resume clients in one place?+
Give each client their own record with their resumes, notes, target roles and job applications. In SoundCV, each client lives in an agency workspace with their own Resumes, Job tracker and Settings tabs. A client picker in the top bar switches everything to that person, so files never get mixed between clients.
How can I prove a resume works?+
Track what happens after the client starts applying. Log each application with the resume that was sent, then count interviews per version. SoundCV does this from forwarded employer emails and shows an interview rate for each resume, so you can compare the original with your rewrite using real replies rather than opinions.
How do I offer job search support as a resume writer?+
Add services that start where the document ends: interview tracking, a weekly progress report, cover letters, or applications sent on the client’s behalf. In SoundCV each of these runs inside the client’s workspace. You can offer one add-on for a fixed period, such as 30 days of tracking, and extend it when clients ask.
How should I price resume writing packages?+
Price on scope and seniority rather than page count. Many writers offer a resume-only tier, a tier with a cover letter and LinkedIn profile, and a premium tier with support after delivery. Check what writers in your niche and region charge, and raise prices as your samples and client results grow.
Are SoundCV templates ATS-friendly for clients?+
The template gallery has an ATS filter that narrows the list to ATS-friendly designs, and every resume can be checked with the built-in AI review. It scores ATS compatibility, content and format, and points to the sections to fix. Run the check before you download the final PDF for the client.
How do I track client interviews after delivery?+
Give the client a personal tracking address and ask them to add one Gmail filter or Outlook rule that forwards job emails to it. Confirmations create applications, interview invites move them to Interviewing with the date, and rejections are marked. Emails the system is unsure about wait in a review queue for you.
Can clients edit their resume themselves?+
Clients do not log in to your workspace, so edits stay with you. The client portal is a read-only link that shows applications and interviews. To let a client make changes, send the PDF or a share link, collect their notes, and update the resume in the builder so the versions stay in one place.
How do I deliver resumes to clients as a PDF?+
Open the resume in the builder and use Download to save a PDF in the template you chose. From the same screen you can email the PDF to an address, export plain text for online forms, or switch on a share link. Name versions clearly, such as “v2 Operations Manager”, before you send them.
