Sonara AI reviews: what happened, and what works now

Sonara AI reviews tell two stories: a popular auto-apply service that shut down in February 2024, and a relaunched product now run by BOLD. This page explains both, what reviewers report today, and how SoundCV Auto Apply differs if you want to review every application before it goes out.

Quick answer

Is Sonara worth it, or is there a better fit?

Short version first. The rest of the page shows the evidence behind it.

Our verdict

Sonara is a volume tool: it finds jobs and fills applications on a recurring subscription. SoundCV Auto Apply is a review-first tool: it fills each employer’s real form, then waits for you to check it and press Submit, and you pay per sent application.

Choose Sonara if…

  • You want a hands-off AI job agent and care more about application volume than reading each form.
  • You already use BOLD products such as Zety or MyPerfectResume and prefer to stay with one company.
  • A recurring subscription suits your budget better than paying per application.

Choose SoundCV if…

  • You want to see every answer, the resume and the cover letter before anything is sent.
  • You want your credit back automatically when an application could not be sent.
  • You want a resume score checker, resume builder and job tracker in the same account.

Did Sonara shut down? What actually happened

Yes, and then it came back under a new owner. Here is the timeline, drawn from the sources listed at the end of this page.

The original Sonara was one of the first services to sell an AI that applies to jobs for you. You gave it a resume and preferences, and it searched for openings and sent automatic applications on your behalf. For a while it was a common answer to the question of how to automatically apply for jobs.

On 1 February 2024 the company posted a notice that it was shutting down. Reviews written since then report the reason as a failure to raise more funding. Active users lost their job queues in the middle of their searches, which is why many older Sonara AI reviews read as warnings.

Later in 2024, BOLD acquired the brand. BOLD runs resume and career sites including Zety, LiveCareer and MyPerfectResume. The relaunched sonara.ai is live in 2026, and its Trustpilot profile was claimed in October 2024. Treat it as a new product with an old name, and judge it on current reviews.

sonara.ai is live again under BOLD, with a new subscription and new reviews building up.

How it works

How does the relaunched Sonara work?

The idea has not changed much: tell it what you want, and it applies for you.

According to 2026 reviews, the current site describes the service as finding jobs and filling out applications, with you pressing submit. You upload a resume, set target roles and locations, and Sonara matches openings from job boards and other listings to your profile.

Reviewers disagree on how much of each application you see before it is sent. Some describe answers going out without a clear preview. Others quote the relaunched site’s promise that you only hit submit. If review before submit matters to you, test it on the trial before you commit to a subscription.

Two limits come up often. Forms that send an email verification code cannot be finished automatically, so some attempted applications do not go out. And several Trustpilot reviewers say job matching repeats roles they already rejected or suggests roles below their level.

Pricing

Sonara AI pricing compared with SoundCV credits

The two tools charge in very different ways, so compare the total cost of the applications you actually send.

Sonara does not publish a pricing page we could load. Reviews from 2026 report a trial of about $2.95, lasting 14 days or 10 applications, that renews at about $23.95 every four weeks. A four-week cycle means 13 charges a year, not 12. Prices may have changed, so read the checkout page before paying.

SoundCV charges per application instead of per month. Setting up Auto Apply and preparing matched applications is free. Each submitted application uses 5 credits, and the credit returns to your balance automatically if the application could not be sent, for example because the job closed.

Pros and cons

What Sonara AI reviews praise and criticize

A fair summary of the themes in Trustpilot reviews and 2026 write-ups, good and bad.

What Sonara does well

Quick to set up

Reviewers say you can upload a resume, pick roles and start applying in one sitting, with little configuration.

Real time saved

Many positive reviews credit Sonara with cutting the hours spent retyping the same details into forms.

Backed by a large company

BOLD runs several long-standing career sites, which makes a second sudden shutdown less likely than for a small startup.

Responsive support

Several Trustpilot reviewers mention helpful replies from customer service when something went wrong.

Where Sonara falls short

Matching misses

A common complaint is roles repeated after being rejected, or roles that do not fit the user’s level or field.

Weak tailoring

Some users say resume customization does not change much between jobs, so applications can read the same.

Forms it cannot finish

Reviewers report that forms needing an email verification code fail, so not every attempted application is sent.

The 2024 shutdown

Users lost queues and history with little warning. Keep your own record of where you applied, whatever tool you use.

Sonara alternative

Why SoundCV is a Sonara alternative you stay in control of

SoundCV Auto Apply fills applications for you like Sonara does. The difference is what happens before and after you press Submit.

You review before anything is sent

Every filled application waits in Ready to review. Open it to see each answer, the resume and the cover letter. Edit anything, or delete the application if the role no longer fits.

Credits come back when it fails

Each sent application uses 5 credits. If SoundCV could not send it, because the job closed or the form needed a human step, the credit returns to your balance on its own.

Answer a question once

When a form asks something new, such as whether you will relocate, you answer it in review. SoundCV remembers it and fills it into other waiting applications and later forms.

A cover letter for each job

When the form asks for one, SoundCV writes a cover letter from your resume and that job’s description. You can rewrite or edit it before sending.

Consent is never ticked for you

Privacy and terms checkboxes stay yours to tick. Optional diversity questions are answered “decline to self-identify” unless you change them.

A tracker that reads your email

Sent applications land in the job tracker. Forward job emails to your personal address and confirmations, interview invites and rejections update the board.

Safety

Is it safe to use an AI auto apply tool?

Any AI job applier sends documents in your name, so check four things before you trust one with your search.

First, can you see what is sent? Automated job applications with wrong salary figures or careless screening answers can cost you a role you wanted. Second, what happens to consent? An application often includes privacy and data-processing checkboxes, and those should be your decision.

Third, data privacy. Your resume holds your address, phone, work history and sometimes salary. Read how the tool stores it and how to delete it. Fourth, continuity. The Sonara shutdown showed that a service can close mid-search, so keep your own record of every application in a job tracker you control.

Review before submit

SoundCV sends nothing you have not approved.

No job-board logins

It applies on the employer’s form, not through your accounts.

Consent stays with you

Privacy and terms boxes are never ticked automatically.

Told when it stops

If a form needs a human step, you get an email and your credit back.

Who it suits

Which tool fits your job search?

The best AI job application tool is the one that matches how you like to apply. These four job seekers would choose differently.

Focused applicants

You target a few titles and want each application right. Pick SoundCV, where you read every form before it is sent.

Volume seekers

You want the widest reach with the least effort and accept some misses. A subscription tool like Sonara fits that style.

Graduates

You apply widely but can’t afford wasted spend. Paying per sent application, with refunds, keeps costs tied to results.

Past Sonara users

You were burned by the 2024 shutdown. Keep a tracker of your own and choose a tool that shows you every application.

Switching

How to switch from Sonara to SoundCV

Moving takes about 15 minutes. Most of that is confirming answers a resume never includes.

1

Cancel and save your list

Stop the Sonara renewal from your account, then note the companies you already applied to so you do not apply twice.

2

Check your resume

Run your resume through the resume score checker and fix anything flagged before it goes to new employers.

3

Set up Auto Apply

Confirm details read from your resume, then add work authorization, salary, notice period and target roles.

4

Review and submit

Press Find new matches, read each filled application, answer anything marked for you, and submit.

Before you automatically apply for jobs anywhere, check your resume score free. It takes under a minute and shows exactly what an ATS may miss.

Check my resume

Want to see the full flow first? The auto apply to jobs guide walks through setup, matching and review. For jobs outside Auto Apply, the cover letter builder writes a letter for any listing, and the job application tracker keeps every application in one board.

FAQ

Questions about Sonara and its alternatives

Did Sonara shut down?+

Yes, the original Sonara shut down on 1 February 2024. Several reviews report the company said it could not raise the funding it needed, and users lost access to their job queues. BOLD, the company behind Zety and MyPerfectResume, acquired the brand later in 2024 and has since relaunched sonara.ai.

Is Sonara still working in 2026?+

Sonara is operating again under BOLD ownership, according to reviews published in 2026, and its Trustpilot profile is active. The service you sign up for today is the relaunched version, not the original product from 2023. Check the current terms, billing cycle and features on sonara.ai before you pay.

Is Sonara AI legit?+

Sonara is a real product run by BOLD, a large career-services company, so it is not a scam. Reviews are mixed. Trustpilot showed a score of 3.8 out of 5 from 98 reviews when we checked in September 2026, with praise for easy setup and complaints about job matching, tailoring and value.

How did Sonara work?+

Sonara asked for your resume and job preferences, searched for matching openings, and filled in applications for you. The pitch was an AI job agent that kept applying while you did other things. The relaunched site describes the job as finding jobs and filling out applications, with you pressing submit.

Is Sonara free?+

Sonara is a paid subscription. Reviews from 2026 report a low-cost trial of about $2.95 that renews at about $23.95 every four weeks, but we could not confirm these prices on sonara.ai. Read the checkout page carefully, and note whether the trial renews automatically before you enter card details.

Does Sonara apply to jobs for you?+

Yes, applying for you is the core of the product. It matches jobs to your profile and fills the application forms. Some reviewers report that forms needing an email verification step cannot be finished, so a share of attempted applications may not go out. Check your dashboard to see which ones were sent.

What is the best Sonara alternative?+

The best Sonara alternative depends on how much control you want. If you want to review every answer before it is sent and pay only for applications that go out, SoundCV Auto Apply fits. If you want maximum volume across many job boards, LoopCV or LazyApply are closer to Sonara’s original model.

Sonara vs LazyApply: what is the difference?+

LazyApply sells annual plans, from $99 a year for 15 applications a day, and applies through a Chrome extension on sites such as Indeed, Dice, ZipRecruiter and Greenhouse. Sonara runs as a web service on a recurring subscription. Both focus on volume. Neither is built around reviewing each application before it is sent.

Is it safe to use an AI auto apply tool?+

It is safe when you know what is sent in your name. Pick a tool that shows each application before submission, never ticks consent or privacy boxes for you, and does not ask for your job-board passwords. Also check how the company stores your resume and answers, and how to delete your data.

How do I switch from Sonara to another tool?+

Cancel your Sonara subscription first so it does not renew, and save a list of jobs you already applied to. Then upload your resume to the new tool, confirm your answers on work authorization, salary and notice period, and add past applications to a job tracker so you never apply twice.
