The short verdict

Huntr review verdict: Huntr or SoundCV?

What Huntr is

How does Huntr work?

Huntr is a job search tracker built around a Kanban board, with a Chrome extension, contacts, documents and AI resume tools around it.

You start by installing the Huntr Chrome extension. When you find a role on LinkedIn, Indeed, a niche board, or an employer’s careers page, you click the extension and the job is clipped into your board. The job card keeps the description, salary, location, dates and your notes, so every detail of the role sits in one place.

Each card sits in a stage column on the board. When something changes, such as an interview invite, you drag the card to the next column. You can log an interview date on the card, attach the resume and cover letter you sent, and link recruiters from your contacts list. A map view shows where your target employers are.

The same extension also autofills application forms from your Huntr profile, which saves retyping your name, work history and links on each site. Around the tracker, Huntr offers a resume builder with templates, resume scoring against a job, AI cover letters, and job search metrics that show how many applications you have at each stage.

Pros and cons

Is Huntr worth it? The honest pros and cons

Huntr gets a lot right. Its limits show up when your search grows past a few dozen applications or when replies start arriving faster than you update the board.

What it does well

A clean Kanban job tracker

The board is easy to read at a glance, and dragging a card between stages takes a second. Each job card holds notes, documents, salary and interview dates.

A Chrome extension that clips jobs from almost anywhere

Huntr says the extension works on thousands of sites, including LinkedIn, Indeed and employer career pages. Its Chrome Web Store listing shows a 4.8 rating.

Contacts, map and metrics in one place

You can attach recruiters and referrals to each job, see employers on a map, and track how many applications reach each stage.

A useful free plan

Unlimited base resumes, all templates, PDF export, unlimited contacts and unlimited autofills cost nothing.

Where it falls short

You keep the board current yourself

When an interview invite or rejection lands in your inbox, the card stays where it is until you move it. We found no feature that reads your job emails.

The free plan stops at 100 jobs

A broad search, such as a graduate applying to many entry-level roles, can pass 100 saved jobs within weeks.

Huntr Pro is priced by the month

At $40 on monthly billing, Pro costs more than Teal+ at $29. Longer billing brings the monthly figure down.

Autofill still means applying one by one

The extension fills forms you open, but you visit each application page and submit each one yourself.

Where SoundCV differs

A job tracker that updates itself from your inbox

SoundCV is built around one idea: the replies you get from employers should update your job tracker, not wait for you to copy them over.

Job emails move your applications

You get a personal forwarding address and add one Gmail filter or Outlook rule. Application confirmations create a row, interview invites move it to Interviewing, and rejections are marked. Emails SoundCV is unsure about wait for you to review.

Interview dates filled in for you

When an invitation includes a time, SoundCV reads it and adds it to the application. You stop copying dates from emails into cards and calendars by hand.

See which resume gets interviews

Attach the resume you sent to each application. The tracker shows which version leads to interviews, so you know which one to keep sending and which to rewrite.

Auto Apply fills employer forms

For supported jobs, Auto Apply reads the employer’s real application form, answers it from your resume and setup, and writes a cover letter. You review and submit. Each send costs 5 credits, refunded if it could not be sent.

Beyond the tracker

Best Huntr alternative for a search that runs itself

Huntr surrounds its tracker with resume tools. SoundCV does too, and connects them to the jobs you are tracking.

Resume score checker

Check your resume score against applicant tracking systems and get a fix list, such as missing keywords or a header the parser cannot read.

Resume builder

Build or rewrite your resume in the AI resume builder, then keep one version per kind of role you target.

Tailored copies, not overwrites

On any job in SoundCV job search, “Improve my resume” makes a tailored copy for that role. Your original resume is never changed.

Cover letter per job

Write a cover letter from your resume and the job description. It is saved to that job’s tracker row, next to the resume you sent.

Career map

Pick a resume and see a map of 10 next roles, each with a fit score, salary range, skills you have and skills to build.

Job search with match details

Search open roles with filters for pay, job type, remote or hybrid, and date posted, then see how your resume matches each one.

Before you move your search to any tracker, check your resume score. It takes under a minute and shows exactly which fixes will get more of your applications read.

In practice

Huntr vs SoundCV on a normal week of job searching

Features read the same on paper. The difference shows up in the small tasks you repeat every day.

Picture a week where you apply to 12 roles. With Huntr, you clip each job into the board, apply on the company site with the autofill extension, and drag each card to Applied. When three confirmation emails, one interview invite and two rejections arrive later in the week, you open the board and move six cards by hand. You also type the interview date onto the card and into your calendar.

With SoundCV, the same week looks different after you apply. The confirmations create or update rows in your job application tracker, the interview invite moves that application to Interviewing with the date filled in, and the two rejections are marked. Anything the tracker is not sure about waits in a short review list rather than changing on its own.

Both approaches keep a complete record. The question is whether you want to maintain it or have your inbox maintain it. If you check your board every evening and enjoy the ritual, Huntr’s drag-and-drop flow works well. If your board is usually a week behind your inbox, a tracker that reads your job emails will stay accurate with less effort.

Application volume matters too. Huntr’s autofill speeds up forms you open one at a time. SoundCV Auto Apply goes a step further on supported jobs: Find new matches prepares up to 20 filled applications ranked by title, skills and location, and each one waits for your review. Sent applications then land in the same tracker as Applied.

Who should pick which

Which job tracking app fits your search?

Your search style decides the right tool more than any feature list does.

Networkers: Huntr

If most of your leads come through referrals and recruiters, Huntr’s contacts list and job cards keep each conversation tied to the right role.

Heavy job savers: Huntr or Teal

If you bookmark dozens of listings a day across many boards, a Chrome extension clipper is the fastest way to collect them.

Graduates applying widely: SoundCV

Many applications mean many replies. Email tracking keeps statuses current without a 100-job cap, and Auto Apply handles supported forms.

Busy professionals: SoundCV

If you search in the evenings, you want the tracker to be right when you open it, with interview dates already there.

How to switch

How to move from Huntr to SoundCV

You do not need to rebuild your search. Start with the applications that are still open and let new emails fill in the rest.

1

Open your tracker

Sign in to SoundCV and open the Job Application Tracker. Your personal forwarding address is waiting there.

2

Add one email filter

Create a Gmail filter or Outlook rule that forwards job emails to that address. It takes about two minutes.

3

Add open applications

Add the jobs still in progress on your Huntr board by hand, with the resume you sent. Closed ones can stay in Huntr.

4

Apply as usual

New confirmations, invites and rejections now update your tracker. Try Auto Apply on jobs with the badge.

You can also keep both for a while. Some people keep Huntr’s Chrome extension for clipping and networking notes, and use SoundCV to track what happens after they apply. Read more about how the job application tracker handles email, or see how Auto Apply fills employer forms.

Huntr vs Teal

Huntr vs Teal: which is better for you?

People comparing Huntr usually look at Teal next. Here is how the two differ, based on their own pricing and help pages.

Tracking limits are the biggest difference. Teal’s free plan includes unlimited job tracking and unlimited resumes, while Huntr’s free plan tracks up to 100 jobs. If you expect a long search, Teal’s free tier lasts longer before you need to pay.

Paid plans are close but not equal. Teal+ costs $13 a week, $29 a month, or $79 a quarter. Huntr Pro costs $40 a month, $90 a quarter, or $160 for six months. On quarterly billing the two land at about $26–$30 a month.

The feature focus differs a little. Huntr leans on its Kanban board, contacts, map view and metrics. Teal leans on resume keyword matching, a resume analysis mode, and email templates for each stage of the search. Both offer a Chrome extension that saves jobs and autofills applications.

Neither one reads your job emails to update statuses, as far as their product pages show. If that is the chore you want gone, compare both with SoundCV. You can also read our full Teal comparison on the Teal alternative page.
