About this role

Location: Remote, United States (must be US-based) Hours: ~10 hours/week (25%), flexible, with room to grow as volume grows Engagement: 1099 contractor or part-time W-2 employee, your choice Pay: $30–40/hour, depending on experience About Joint Academy
Joint Academy is a digital musculoskeletal care company operating in the US, UK and Sweden. We did $40M in revenue last year and are profitable. In the US we run two things: an AI Care Platform that lets physical therapy clinics deliver and bill Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) to their own patients, and a virtual physical therapy service contracted directly with health plans. Both are growing fast, and billing is becoming a service we offer, not just a back-office function. The role We're looking for a hands-on biller who knows physical therapy billing inside out and wants to build and own a billing service for a company that's scaling across the US. Your first job is billing on behalf of our clients: PT clinics using our platform for RTM. Your second is billing for our own contracts with insurance companies as we add health plans. You're not buried in the back office. You'll sit in on client meetings, be the person our clinic partners call with billing questions, and help us turn "we bill for you" into a real, paid offering. What you'll do
Bill RTM on behalf of our PT clinic clients: prepare, submit, track and reconcile claims (CPT 98975, 98977, 98980, 98981), review documentation against payer rules, and catch errors before they become denials
Join client onboarding and check-in calls as our billing liaison, alongside our Customer Success lead
Submit, track and reconcile claims for Joint Academy 's own virtual PT services with commercial health plans
Work denials, appeals, ERAs/EOBs and payment posting; keep AR clean and aging low
Help with payer enrollment and credentialing admin (NPI/PECOS, CAQH, commercial payer setup) as we add health plans
Build simple, repeatable billing processes and tell us what we should automate
You should have
3+ years of physical therapy billing experience (outpatient PT, CPT 97xxx codes, modifiers, 8-minute rule, plan-of-care rules)
Commercial payer experience and comfort with clearinghouses, ERAs and payer portals
Experience working denials and appeals end to end
Comfort talking to clinic owners and office managers; you explain billing clearly and calmly
Self-directed; you'll be our only biller, so you need to run the function, not wait for instructions
Bonus points
RTM or RPM billing experience (98975–98981, 99453–99458)
Credentialing/payer enrollment experience across multiple states
Experience at a billing company or managing billing for several clinics at once
Familiarity with telehealth billing rules and place-of-service codes
What we offer
$30–40/hour, 1099 or W-2, your choice
Fully remote, flexible schedule, ~10 hrs/week to start with a clear path to more hours as our clinic and health plan business grows
A chance to build a billing service from the ground up, with your work directly visible to clients and leadership
Direct exposure to RTM and health plan billing at national scale
How to apply Apply with your resume and 3–4 sentences on the PT billing setup you're most proud of fixing. No cover letter needed. Originally posted on Himalayas
