Proposition Technical Manager (External/ adviser facing)
About the Role
M&G's Technical team plays a unique role within the business. We are the technical experts behind our adviser-facing proposition, supporting Intermediated Distribution, Marketing and Proposition teams to deliver market-leading technical support, thought leadership and financial planning content.
As a Proposition Technical Manager (External), you will help maintain and enhance M&G's reputation as one of the UK's leading providers of technical support for financial advisers and paraplanners. You will combine deep technical expertise with strong communication skills, producing high-quality content, supporting proposition development, engaging with advisers and industry bodies, and helping shape M&G's response to legislative and regulatory change.
While the role supports a broad range of financial planning disciplines, we are particularly interested in candidates with strong expertise in tax, trusts and estate planning. Candidates who also come with strong pensions technical expertise, will be especially attractive.
This is an opportunity to join one of the most recognised technical teams in UK financial services. You'll be at the centre of adviser support, thought leadership, proposition development and technical innovation, helping shape how M&G supports advisers, customers and the wider profession through a period of significant legislative and regulatory change.
**Key **
- Act as M&G's technical expert on pensions, tax and financial planning matters.
- Identify and interpret regulatory and legislative change, helping shape proposition strategy and adviser outcomes.

- Provide technical consultancy across proposition development, marketing activity and business projects.
- Build M&G's reputation through thought leadership, industry engagement and media representation.
- Lead technical delivery across multiple stakeholders and act as deputy to the Head of Technical when required.
Key knowledge, skills and experience
- Strong technical expertise in life and pension products, including pensions, ISAs, investment bonds, trusts, annuities and investment propositions.
- Deep understanding of tax legislation, financial planning regulation and the wider regulatory environment affecting product manufacturers, distributors and advisers.
- Experience applying technical and regulatory knowledge to proposition development, financial planning and distribution activities.
- Ability to assess legislative and regulatory change, identify technical risks and opportunities, and provide pragmatic recommendations to stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across multiple business functions and seniority levels.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging messages for both internal and external audiences.
- Experience providing technical expertise, training, thought leadership and support to advisers, distribution teams and industry professionals.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgement, with the confidence to challenge constructively and support effective decision-making.
- A collaborative, curious and credible approach, with the ability to build trusted relationships and represent M&G internally and externally.

- FPMI/APMI, FPFS/APFS (Chartered Financial Planner), a relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification, or working towards one. Relevant experience will also be considered.
