Skills & Abilities

Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluation.

Interprets and applies accounting principles, internal control standards, and relevant laws and regulations.

Reviews and monitors accounting activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, utility billing, payroll, and related financial functions.

Prepares and analyzes financial reports, statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and audit documentation.

Develops and implements procedures, workflows, and process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Coordinates accounting operations with other City departments, outside agencies, and system users.

Oversees maintenance and operation of the City’s financial system modules, troubleshoots issues, and supports end users.

Conducts research, identifies problems, and develops recommendations for operational or procedural changes.

Communicates effectively with staff, management, vendors, and the public, providing clear information and resolving inquiries or concerns.

Organizes work independently, manages competing priorities, and meets critical deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.

Utilizes financial management software, spreadsheets, databases, and modern office technology to perform complex accounting tasks.

Maintains accurate records, documentation, and data integrity in accordance with established standards and regulations.
Education & Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, economics, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal accounting or related experience.
- Experience using Workday or a similar financial management system is desirable.
- Experience working in a supervisory or lead capacity is highly desirable.

Candidates who successfully advance through the interview process may be placed on an eligibility list. The selected candidate will be required to complete reference and background checks, including LiveScan, and must pass a pre-employment medical examination with drug and alcohol screening.

THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works, and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and an Assistant City Manager.
The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2026 is $422.7 million with a General Fund operating budget of $231.3 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 935 dedicated employees who provide high-quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
