About the team

The Waste Partnerships team plays an important role in supporting the City’s waste and resource recovery services through effective commercial and contract management.

Working closely with the Waste and Resource Recovery team and key internal and external stakeholders, the team manages significant commercial arrangements and partnerships that support the delivery of essential services to the Gold Coast community.

As part of this team, you’ll work in a collaborative and commercially focused environment, providing strategic advice and oversight across complex contracts and helping ensure the City achieves strong performance, value for money and sustainable outcomes from its commercial partnerships.

About the role

As the Commercial Management Business Partner, you’ll provide strategic commercial advice, contract management and analysis across significant contracts and commercial arrangements within the City.

Partnering closely with the Waste and Resource Recovery team, you’ll help maximise value for money, strengthen contract performance and ensure commercial agreements continue to deliver the outcomes expected by the City and the community.

This is a strategic and hands-on role where you’ll bring your commercial expertise to complex contracts, provide trusted advice to stakeholders and identify opportunities to improve performance, value and outcomes.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading commercial contract management and oversight in line with City policies, governance frameworks and contractual obligations.
  • Monitoring benefits realisation and value capture across key agreements.
  • Providing clear, strategic commercial advice to internal contract owners and stakeholders.
  • Developing and maintaining contract management plans, governance arrangements, claims management and reporting.
  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and external partners.
  • Preparing and negotiating contract variations, performance reports and commercial analysis.
  • Driving contract performance and developing negotiation strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Developing financial models aligned to contractual requirements and business needs.
  • Engaging and managing consultants, auditors and specialist advisers where required to support effective contract oversight.
  • Coordinating and supporting audit responses and ensuring appropriate contract management records and reporting are maintained.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement across commercial and contract management practices.

We’re looking for people who have:

We’re looking for an experienced commercial professional who can provide strategic advice while confidently managing the detail of complex contracts.

You’ll bring:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in significant contract management and/or commercial advisory roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex commercial arrangements, contracts, negotiations and performance outcomes.
  • Strong commercial and financial analysis skills, with the ability to interpret contractual requirements and translate them into practical business advice.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience developing commercial models, reports and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of contract governance, performance management, risk and compliance.
  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Law or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • A Master of Business Administration or other relevant postgraduate qualification is desirable.
