If you are heading into the final year of your engineering degree, our 2027 Undergraduate Academy gives you the opportunity to gain practical industry experience while completing your studies.

Over 12 months, you will work alongside experienced engineers on real projects that help shape, build and connect the Gold Coast, developing practical skills, building industry connections and exploring where a career with the City could take you.

Start your career at the City

Starting February 2027, the Undergraduate Academy is designed specifically for students entering their final year of university. You will work 16 hours per week during university study periods, giving you the flexibility to balance your studies with meaningful professional experience, with opportunities to increase your working hours during university breaks.

This is an opportunity to take what you are learning in the classroom and see how it is applied in the real world, contributing to projects, working with experienced professionals and developing practical engineering capability before you graduate.

What’s on offer

As an Undergraduate Engineer, you will complete a planned 12-month rotational pathway across the engineering asset lifecycle, gaining experience across Planning, Design, Delivery, Maintenance and Operations.

Through a combination of Core and Micro Rotations, you will experience different stages of the asset lifecycle, work across a variety of engineering teams and projects and build a broader understanding of engineering at the City. Your rotational pathway will consider your engineering discipline, individual interests and the opportunities available across the City, giving you broad and purposeful experience across the lifecycle.

Throughout the program, you will be supported by a dedicated Mentor, providing guidance and continuity across your 12 months and a Rotation Leader within each placement to support your day-to-day work and development.

Who can apply?

Our Undergraduate Engineer opportunity welcomes students completing a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, Structural, Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical or Process Engineering. To be considered for this opportunity you must:

• be enrolled in and entering the final year of a relevant undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering degree at a recognised Australian university when the program commences, with approximately 12 months of study remaining
• have Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a visa with appropriate working rights for the required hours and duration of the program
• be available to work 16 hours per week during university study periods
• be available to work in person at City of Gold Coast workplaces and locations
• be able to obtain a Construction White Card and meet relevant WHS requirements
