The Water Resources Department Engineering Intern will be directly immersed and involved with the operations, maintenance and design of water, sewer, and storm infrastructure Citywide. There will be varied exposure to office, field and interagency facets of engineering. The Intern will work directly with the Engineering team within the Water Resources Department and will be introduced to professional Operations staff.

**Work hours:**10-20 hours per week, flexible schedule but within City business hours. The hours may be between Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This position is classified as at-will, hourly, part-time. Hourly, part-time positions average 10-20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

  • Current enrollment as a college/university sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in the field of Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Completion of a survey and fluids/hydraulics course
  • Basic knowledge or understanding of AutoCAD

License

  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license is required at the time of application

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assists with researching and evaluating development impacts of projects and alternatives.

  • Prepares spreadsheets, graphs, drawings, and cost estimates.

  • Supports regulatory compliance permitting and report preparation.

  • Reviews documents and technical publications.

  • Assists with the preparation of utility resource mapping using GIS, AutoCAD detail drawing generation, and performs field work including photo documentation.

  • Coordinates with local agencies, site assessments, and infrastructure projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

_Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:_Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
