PROPOSED SALARY RANGE:  £36,000-£42,000  depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Plus London Weighting Allowance £5,441 on top of the base salary. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As a Data Governance Analyst, you will help embed robust data governance and quality practices across BBC Studios. Working with business, data and platform teams, you will clarify data ownership, support standards and controls, improve metadata and documentation, and help colleagues use data confidently and responsibly. Your work will strengthen accountability, improve data quality and enable teams to derive greater value from data.

YOUR KEY AND IMPACT:

• Help develop, implement and continuously improve the BBC Studios Data Governance framework, standards and best practices across data domains.
• Establish and maintain clear data ownership and accountability with domain owners and senior stakeholders, using the Alation data catalogue and related governance processes.
• Provide pragmatic advice and support on data governance and data quality queries, taking account of BBC Studios’ complex organisational structure and business needs.
• Promote data governance disciplines and culture through education, metadata and data-management guidance, and accessible documentation that is widely shared and understood.
• Use data tools, reporting and knowledge sharing to improve data accessibility, transparency and informed decision-making across the organisation.
• Collaborate with Platform and technical teams to embed governance principles into data systems, applications and infrastructure.
• Support day-to-day governance operations, including the team mailbox, routing queries to the appropriate team member and working with third-party vendors where required.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Experience in data governance within a large or complex organisation, supported by experience in a data analyst role or equivalent.
• Proven experience developing and/or implementing data domain structures, ownership models and accountability frameworks in a complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of data management, including governance standards, metadata management and data quality principles.
•  Excellent influencing, relationship-building and written and verbal communication skills across business, technical and governance functions.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders and third-party vendors.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

• Hands-on experience with complex datasets or big-data environments, SQL and data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI or similar.
• Experience with data catalogues such as Alation or Collibra.
• Experience working with cloud data warehouses or platforms such as Snowflake or GCP.
• Knowledge of data quality metrics, measures and monitoring approaches.
