The Academic Department Administrator will support the forensic psychology program by performing a wide range of duties under limited supervision.
This senior administrative support position provides enhanced administrative support to an academic department. This role is a key contributor to providing high quality customer service to meet the academic needs of the faculty and students. This position reports to a Faculty Department Chair or Program Director. This position may supervise an office assistant and/or temporary staff and student workers. The core of this position are to manage the daily operation of an academic department within a school or college, primarily in the areas of human resources, compliance and financial management, to represent the department on business affairs and/or faculty affairs to the institution community, to develop and prepare budgets and to coordinate and participate in a variety of human resources activities such as coordinating and initiating recruitment efforts.
Additional include managing the hiring process for all faculty (full time, adjunct and visiting scholars), temporary staff and students, including on-boarding to the department, supporting and addressing faculty classroom needs, acquisition of textbooks and compiling course materials, and liaising with and assisting faculty with academic and administrative matters such as administrative aspects of course and curricula preparation. This role makes decisions related to academic support and serves as the administrative subject matter expert for the department. This position participates in monthly school-wide meetings for administrative managers, and may supervise a small staff of non-exempt employees and/or students.
The George Washington University, Forensic Psychology department is seeking an Academic Department Administrator. The of this position include the following:
- Manages all logistical aspects of the Forensic Psychology department, including evaluations, space, food and beverages, print and digital program materials, graduate student recruitment, speaker travel, retreats, and other tasks.
- Stays current on faculty affairs: including contracts, special agreements, startup funds, etc.
- Develops and monitors budgets and prepares and process all financial related matters, including purchase orders, supplemental compensation, invoices, honorarium, stipends, volunteer appreciation recognition, expense reimbursements, and expenses. Maintains department P-card. Ensures budget compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
- Supports the administrative operations of the department, to include: developing and maintaining databases; scheduling, supporting/attending, producing agendas and minutes; preparing correspondence designed to effect action or publicize department activities; and compiling/distributing various assessments
- Regularly updates departmental web platform
- Liaison between departments and offices within the CCAS and GW
