Job Description
You will join the LHCb Technical Coordination section of the LHCb group. You will be part of the LHCb design office, contributing to the CAD modelling of the LHCb detector and helping to develop LHCb digital mock-up and digital twin methodologies that will support installation planning, maintenance, and operation for the next milestones of the experiment.

- Produce engineering documentation, technical specifications, 3D models, and manufacturing drawings.
- Support the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment.

Your profile
- Initial experience in designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software.
- Knowledge of CATIA V5, PDM/PLM environments, or structured engineering data management; familiarity with these tools is considered an advantage.
- Exposure to the machining of parts, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems is considered an advantage.
- Familiarity with 3D scanning, reverse engineering, or digital twin concepts is considered an advantage.
Skills
Mandatory:
- Ability to work effectively in an international, team with physicists, engineers, and technicians.
- 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting skills, preferably using CATIA V5 (or an equivalent CAD system, with a willingness to learn CATIA).
- Good knowledge of mechanical drawing standards, dimensioning and tolerancing (ISO GPS), materials, and manufacturing processes.
Optional:
- Basic programming skills, ideally in JavaScript and/or Python.
- Interest in or experience with 3D web visualisation technologies (e.g. Three.js, WebGL, and the glTF format).
Language skills:
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
Additional Information
Job closing date: 19.10.2026 at 23:59 CEST.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week
Job flexibility: Fully Onsite
Target start date: 01-January-2027
This position involves:
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Interventions in underground installations.
- Radiation worker, category A.
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain conditions.
Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
