Manager Oversight Analyst, Life Investment Office

The Life Investment Office (LIO) is responsible for approximately £159bn of assets, including the UK’s largest £134bn With Profits Fund, delivering multi-asset and annuity solutions on behalf of the Prudential Assurance Company (PAC).

The LIO is responsible for managing these assets. The LIO works closely with the various asset management businesses within the M&G plc Group, and other external managers, to structure multi-asset portfolios aligned with the investment objectives of our clients.

Within Manager Oversight, analysts play a core role in designing, building and continuously improving the investment building blocks that underpin LIO portfolios. This role offers autonomy within a collaborative investment environment, with the opportunity to shape how LIO portfolios evolve over time.

Working across asset classes and investment strategies, the role provides broad exposure to manager selection, portfolio construction and investment oversight; this responsibility encompasses all traditional (public equity, public bonds and cash) and alternative (real estate, private equity, real assets, diversifying strategies and private equity) asset classes across the different geographic regions the LIO allocate to.

Analysts are active contributors to investment thinking, bringing independent analysis, challenge and insight that directly informs portfolio design, manager decisions and governance outcomes.

Key for this Role:

  • Work alongside Asset Class Leads, the Multi‑Asset Strategy Lead and Quantitative Research Lead to ensure analysis is aligned with the team’s strategic priorities, research agenda and portfolio objectives

  • Contribute to the selection, design and continuous improvement of investment building blocks used across LIO portfolios, across public and private markets

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to support manager selection and oversight – monitoring existing managers and strategies, identifying emerging risks, opportunities and recommending areas for portfolio enhancement

  • Contribute to portfolio construction analysis, including multi-manager combinations, benchmarks and implementation considerations

  • Participate actively in investment due diligence meetings with internal and external managers, forming independent views and contributing to recommendations

  • Build effective working relationships with internal and external fund managers, contributing to the evaluation of existing strategies and the development of new investment opportunities

  • Support continuous improvement of analytical tools, screening frameworks and oversight processes

  • Understand and demonstrate positive conduct in line our purpose, values and behaviours

  • Understand the Company’s Sustainability vision and apply the Sustainability Strategy as appropriate for your role

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in investment research, manager selection and multi-manager portfolio construction, with the ability to apply both quantitative and qualitative analysis to assess managers and investment strategies

  • Strong understanding of financial markets and investment products across public and private asset classes, including how they contribute to multi-asset portfolio outcomes and portfolio construction decisions

  • Ability to form independent investment views, challenge constructively and communicate recommendations clearly to a range of stakeholders, including investment professionals and governance forums

  • CFA or equivalent professional qualification preferred (or studying towards)
