Job detail for Research Associate on the Mechanics of Floating Structures

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Post-doctoral Research Associate. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to research on the mechanics of floating structures. The role will focus on building mathematical models of fluid-structure interactions, developing new experimental activities and analysing data, and will take place within a dynamic and inclusive research environment.

You will be responsible for

• Performing experiments on floating structures.

• Acquiring & analysing experimental data and interpreting findings.

• Using mathematical techniques to model fluid-structure interactions.

• Writing up research work for publication.

• Working with colleagues on joint projects

About You

Essential Criteria:

• Hold or be about to obtain a PhD (or equivalent) in physics, engineering, chemistry or applied mathematics.

• Strong problem-solving skills, and eagerness to learn new skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively within a group and, also, to work independently.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desirable Criteria:

• Demonstrable experience researching fluid-structure interactions.

• Demonstrable experience in mechanical modelling.

• Demonstrable experience performing experiments on soft and/or slender structures.

• Analytical understanding of elastic buckling (in)stabilities.
