THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a Senior Software Engineer specialising in SAP Integrations, you will be a core member of our in-house ERP Engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and operating modern integration solutions across our SAP S/4HANA landscape. You will work exclusively with modern cloud integration and API-led connectivity — no legacy point-to-point middleware.

You will own integration solutions end-to-end: from design and development through to production operation, monitoring, and continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with Product Management, platform teams, and external stakeholders to deliver integrations that are performant, scalable, and compliant.

ERP Engineering is part of the Zalando Technology Foundation, which builds and operates Zalando's core business platform. Our team owns the ERP landscape, integrating SAP S/4HANA tightly with internal platforms and external partners. We work at pace, value technical excellence, and take full ownership of what we ship.

Design & Delivery

• Design, build, and operate scalable cloud-native integration solutions on SAP BTP Integration Suite — connecting SAP systems (S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba) and third-party platforms (Salesforce, Workday, ServiceNow) using API-led connectivity, pre-built iFlows, and event-driven patterns via SAP Event Mesh

• Own production health end-to-end — monitoring, alerting, SLOs, incident response — while ensuring all integrations meet GDPR, security, and compliance requirements

• Collaborate closely with Product Management and stakeholders to clarify requirements, share knowledge across the team, and ship high-quality, maintainable integration flows in small, safe iterations

API-Led Connectivity

• Expose and consume OData and REST APIs from SAP backends

• Secure, throttle, and monitor APIs centrally using SAP API Management

• Leverage SAP Graph as a unified semantic layer to simplify multi-system data access

Event-Driven Architecture

• Design and implement real-time, event-driven integrations using SAP Event Mesh and Advanced Event Mesh

• Migrate batch-based integrations to event-driven patterns where appropriate

• Architect reliable event flows with guaranteed delivery, deduplication, and error handling

Non-SAP & SaaS Integrations

• Build integrations with non-SAP SaaS applications using pre-built adapters and Open Connectors

• Handle data model mapping across heterogeneous systems without custom code where possible

Operations & Quality

• Own the production health of your integrations — monitoring, alerting, SLOs, and incident response

• Conduct and participate in code and design reviews

• Ensure integrations meet GDPR, security, and compliance requirements

Collaboration & Mentorship

• Work autonomously and act as a trusted, reliable team member

• Share knowledge and support colleagues through pairing and hands-on guidance

• Collaborate with Product Management and stakeholders to clarify requirements and surface trade-offs early

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• Hands-on experience with SAP BTP Integration Suite

• Proficiency with SAP Business Accelerator Hub — deploying and configuring pre-built integration content

• Strong experience with SAP API Management — API policies, security, throttling, monitoring

• Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures using SAP Event Mesh or Advanced Event Mesh

• Solid understanding of OData, REST, SOAP, and messaging protocols (AMQP, Kafka, or equivalent)

• Experience integrating SAP systems (S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba) with third-party SaaS platforms

• Knowledge of GDPR and security best practices in integration design

Nice to Have

• Experience with SAP Graph

• Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA data models and standard APIs

• Experience migrating from SAP PI/PO to BTP Integration Suite

• Knowledge of OpenAPI / AsyncAPI specification

• Experience with CI/CD for BTP-based integration artefacts
