Job Description

As an Assistant Director at Ubisoft Montréal, you will support the realization of an established creative and narrative vision. You will help bring together missions, narrative, characters, scripted scenes, and gameplay elements to create a cohesive and emotionally rich experience.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with the Director to ensure the consistency of the narrative tone and the gaming experience
  • Contribute early to mission development to integrate narrative needs, branching paths, and gameplay constraints
  • Review playable missions and perform a directorial pass to improve the quality and consistency of the content
  • Propose creative ideas and solutions that support the established vision while considering narrative, technical, and gameplay constraints
  • Polish scripted scenes to strengthen their tone, tension, atmosphere, and emotional impact
  • Harmonize mission elements, including narrative, characters, scripted events, artificial intelligence, and animals
  • Collaborate with level designers to ensure consistency in scene placement, continuity, and action pacing
  • Participate in direction and review meetings with the animation, level design, lighting, visual effects, and narrative teams
  • Communicate content intentions to the art teams and coordinate the validation of sketches, characters, textures, animations, image composition, sound effects, and lighting
  • Contribute to voice recordings, sound mixing, and final editing, while supporting the achievement of quality targets and meeting deadlines
Qualifications

What you bring to the team

  • Demonstrate solid knowledge of film and video games, particularly cinematic language and technical constraints related to gameplay
  • Apply your knowledge of cinematography to composition, pacing, staging, and editing
  • Use your artistic and technical skills to support visual storytelling and mission quality
  • Communicate your ideas clearly orally, in writing, and through visual presentations
  • Quickly create visual materials using video editing, visual mockups, Adobe After Effects, or comparable tools
  • Propose creative and feasible solutions while respecting an established vision and production constraints
  • Foster collaboration and consensus between multiple teams and disciplines
  • Leverage experience in storyboarding, considered an asset
