Job Description

Act as a DBA/DBRE, responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, performance, scalability, and financial efficiency of database environments, serving as a technical reference for decisions regarding architecture, observability, governance, and the evolution of data platforms.

What we expect from you:

Technical expertise:

• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and SQL Server.
• Advanced knowledge in administration, troubleshooting, and optimization of databases in critical and high-availability environments.
• Experience with cloud environments and distributed architectures.
• Experience with Database Reliability Engineering (DBRE) practices, observability, and automation.

Main :

Performance and optimization:

• Diagnose and resolve performance issues by analyzing execution plans, locks, resource contention, wait events, and I/O consumption.
• Define and manage indexing strategies, ensuring query efficiency and scalability.
• Perform advanced database tuning, adjusting memory parameters, parallelism, cache, checkpoints, and other critical configurations.
• Review and optimize procedures, functions, triggers, and other database objects.
• Implement data partitioning, retention, and purging strategies.
• Define performance metrics and indicators, monitoring environment evolution and preventing regressions.

Reliability and high availability:

• Design and manage high-availability, replication, and failover solutions.
• Ensure robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery policies.
• Validate RPO and RTO metrics through periodic testing.
• Conduct database migrations and schema changes with minimal impact or zero downtime.
• Act in response to critical incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive actions.

Observability:

• Structure and evolve database monitoring through metrics, dashboards, and intelligent alerts.
• Define and track reliability indicators such as availability, latency, resource utilization, and replication lag.
• Promote a data-driven culture and continuous operational improvement.

Architecture and data modeling:

• Support development squads in defining the best relational and non-relational modeling strategies.
• Participate in decisions regarding technology choices, access patterns, and data architecture evolution.
• Ensure best practices for governance, versioning, and change management.

Efficiency and cost management:

• Identify opportunities for infrastructure optimization and resource consumption.
• Perform capacity analysis, rightsizing, and utilization of database environments.
• Connect consumption, utilization, and cost metrics to support FinOps initiatives and operational efficiency.

Security and compliance:

• Ensure the application of least privilege principles and secure access management.
• Implement best practices for data protection, encryption, and credential management.
• Ensure compliance with LGPD, internal audits, and regulatory requirements.

Knowledge sharing:

• Act as a technical reference for development, SRE, and infrastructure teams.
• Support the training of more junior professionals.
• Create documentation, runbooks, and operational standards that promote autonomy, scalability, and sustainability of operations.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with AWS RDS, Aurora, DocumentDB, or managed cloud databases.
• Knowledge of Datadog, observability, and SRE.
• Experience in mission-critical and high-transaction volume environments.
• Knowledge of automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience in technology companies, fintechs, payment methods, or digital platforms.

Qualifications

• Solid experience of 5+ years as a DBA, with at least 3 years working in critical and high-availability production environments.
• Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL, including MVCC, autovacuum, bloat management, execution plan analysis, logical and physical replication, performance tuning, and monitoring.
• Advanced knowledge of MongoDB, with experience in replica sets, high-availability strategies, document modeling, query optimization, indexes, and aggregation framework.
• Solid experience in SQL Server, including Query Store, Always On, performance analysis, query optimization, statistics, T-SQL, and production environment administration.
• Experience with AWS database services, such as RDS, Aurora, and DocumentDB, as well as CloudWatch, IAM, VPC, KMS, Secrets Manager, and backup and recovery strategies.
• Mastery of advanced SQL and interpretation of execution plans across different database engines.
• Experience with automation and creating routines using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience with code versioning using Git and collaborative development workflows.

Preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
• Experience with Datadog, especially Database Monitoring and observability.
• Experience with database versioning and migration tools, such as Flyway, Liquibase, or Alembic.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes environments and containerized applications.
• Experience in fintechs, payment methods, banks, or highly regulated environments.
• Participation in modernization projects, cloud migrations, or migrations between different database engines.
• Knowledge of SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) practices.
