Social Security Scotland is looking for a colleague to temporarily join the Organisational Design and Development team as a C1 Organisational Design Practitioner. This post is being offered as a Temporary Level Transfer, or on a loan basis for applicants from Other Government Departments and Common Citizenship organisations, for substantive C1 employees (or equivalent)

Organisational Design & Development supports senior leaders to shape how the organisation develops both in terms of structure, ways of working and process, but also critically around leadership, culture and building capability.

You will lead the design and delivery of high impact OD&D interventions as well as advising on and supporting the implementation of smaller scale activity and building OD&D capability in the wider team and organisation. Working in collaboration with HR Business Partners, you will often work directly with Deputy Directors and Senior Leaders, influencing and advising them on the best approach to meet their goals.

You will have the ability to quickly build trusted relationships with a variety of key stakeholders and proactively manage multiple complex Organisational Design interventions projects under pressure.

You will work closely with the Head of Organisational Design & Development and fellow C1 Leads across the branch.

  • Work with the Executive Team and wider agency leadership to develop understanding and application of organisation design solutions that support organisational strategy and delivery.
  • Lead detailed consultancy work, with an implementation bias, in collaboration with Deputy Directors and their teams to develop organisational design solutions that respond to organisational challenges, in particular, enabling Agency performance culture.
  • Provide Organisational Design expertise across the Organisation and supporting key initiatives including Approach to Performance, Target Operating Model work, Social Security Programme design and transition programme.
  • As needed, design and facilitate solutions (e.g. workshops, events, interventions) that engage senior audiences and stakeholders in organisational design practice, prompting debate, challenge, and enabling consensus.
  • Play an active part in Social Security Scotland Organisation Design consultancy – designing and embedding Organisational Design as a part of decision making on modelling and service development, shaping structures and teams.
  • Effectively build strong, trusted, influential relationships with senior leaders to understand their needs and translate into responsive organisational design solutions.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based input on the organisational impacts, risks, and opportunities that influence our success.
  • Engage with senior leaders to understand their needs and translate that into effective organisation design solutions for the future.
  • Support organisation design reviews through analysis, insight, and identification of opportunities for improvement.
  • Build internal capability in organisation design through coaching, training and toolkits.
  • Take a coaching approach to Organisation Design, upskilling Organisation Design & Development colleagues, sharing best practise and leading by example.
