Contract status: Outside IR35
Start date: 2nd November
Contract length: To the end of December 2026, with extension possible
Location: Remote first
London days: Once or twice a month
Who you'll be doing it for
You'll join the mobile platform team on a UK government app, working on the app and the services that support it.
The team builds and maintains the common parts of the app, such as login. It also brings in key features built by other teams, and manages app releases.
You're engaged through hedgehog lab, a digital product consultancy and certified B Corp, also Great Place to Work certified.
For 20 years we've helped public and private sector organisations through digital transformation.
What you'll be doing
You'll spend your days writing automated tests for the iOS and Android apps.
Right now the team tests with Maestro. You'll keep those tests running, and fix them when they break.
Alongside that, you'll start building the replacements: native tests using XCUITest on iOS and Espresso on Android.
You'll test the common parts of the app, such as login, and check that features built by other teams work properly inside it. Your results will help the team decide when a release is ready.
You'll work next to the developers while they build, so you catch problems before they ship. When something looks risky, you'll tell them straight away.
What's in it for you
You'll help shape how the team moves from Maestro to native testing, on a government app used by the public.
Most of it happens from home.
What you'll need to be considered
You need solid commercial experience in mobile test automation.
You should have hands-on time with Maestro, XCUITest or Espresso, and ideally more than one.
You write test code that other people can pick up. You're comfortable explaining results in an agile team.
