The Division of University Relations represents an integrated approach to Government Relations (Community, State, Federal), Brand, News, Media Relations, and Strategic Communications. More than 50 University Relations communicators collaborate with and provide support to the colleges, schools and administrative units within the university. This includes promoting and raising the visibility of Cornell University to a wide variety of internal and external audiences in support of the university strategic priorities.
The Opportunity:
Media Relations is the university’s liaison to local, regional, national and international media organizations. On both breaking news and long-term research efforts, Media Relations works across the university to connect faculty and administration leaders with traditional and new media.
The Media Relations Analytics Coordinator (MRAC) position provides high-level administrative and analytics support to the Senior Director of Media Relations and the Media Relations team. The Media Relations Analytics Coordinator (MRAC) serves as a first point of contact for media inquiries by monitoring the Media Relations general phone line and email inbox, routing requests as appropriate, and responding to routine inquiries. The MRAC also works closely with the Media Relations team to maintain outreach metrics, organic media hits and strategic audience performance metrics. The MRAC assists in preparing highlight reports on Media Relations performance and trends and compiles daily, weekly and monthly reports of media mentions of the university.
This is a full time, on campus position (within commuting distance from Ithaca, NY). Some hybrid activities are possible, but the employee will be expected to be on campus regularly and frequently. Fully remote work is not available for this position.

Hiring budget for this position is between $67,200 - $69,000/annual. The actual offer will be based on the candidate’s skills and experience.
Key :
The Media Relations Analytics Coordinator (MRAC) will support the Media Relations team’s analytics and reporting efforts by maintaining outreach metrics, organic media hits and strategic audience performance metrics. The MRAC assists in preparing highlight reports on Media Relations performance and trends. The MRAC manages the Media Relations core analytics tools, including homegrown applications, as well as third-party software such as Muck Rack. Using these tools, the MRAC tracks daily media mentions, distributes the daily “Morning Scan,”of notable media coverage, compiles weekly and annual metrics reports, and performs routine data cleaning and maintenance to ensure accuracy and integrity of the team’s analytics.
What We Need
We are seeking a team member who has the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Data Analytics, or a related field and 2 to 4 years of work experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or data analytics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail when working with quantitative data and written content.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
- Familiarity with, and/or eagerness to learn public relations and media monitoring tools like Muck Rack, Cision, Meltwater, and/or Google Analytics.
- Experience with, or strong interest in, using generative AI tools to analyze datasets, identify trends in media relations activities and improve reporting and data-cleaning workflows.
- Understanding of, and interest in, rapidly evolving news media landscape, especially top-tier outlets that regularly cover higher education and academic research.
- Experience in project coordination, planning and execution of all forms of communication
