The College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University is seeking applicants for a Post Doctoral Scholar position. The postdoctoral scholar will work as part of an research team on projects focused onthe , evolutionary dynamics, and surveillance of infectious diseases (including influenza and coronaviruses). The postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for leading bioinformatics and statistical analyses ofresearchdata, participating in biological sample collection and field surveillance activities, and maintaining physical and electronic datasets. Key include preparing high-quality peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, drafting grant proposals, developing IACUC, IBC, and IRBprotocols, and communicating research findings via oral presentations at regional and national conferences. The scholar will work collaboratively with scientists, laboratory staff, and external collaborators in all phases of the research process.

Working Conditions:

Opportunities to participate in studies that would require:

• Work inBSL-3 and BSL-3Aghigh-containment laboratory facilities.

• The ability to wear a**Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)**and other necessary PPE for up to 4 hours at a time.

• Ability tolift upto40 lbs.

• Work with large animals or wildlife.

Additional Information:

Minimum Qualifications:

PhDin Molecular Biology,Virology,Bioinformatics, Molecular Epidemiology, Evolutionary Biology, or another relevant area.

Experience in molecular laboratory methodologies, acidextraction, quantification, and PCR techniques.

Proven experience usingbioinformatic pipelinesto analyze and visualize complex biological/genomic datasets.

Demonstrated background ingrant writing(e.g., NIH, NSF, private foundations).

Experience managing researchethics &compliance(e.g.,IACUC, IRB, or IBCprotocols).

Excellent quantitative, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

Ability to meet tight deadlines and work collaboratively in an laboratory setting.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience withnext-generation sequencing (NGS) data, microbiome composition analysis, or within-host genetic diversity.

Knowledge ofevolutionary theory, population genetics, or disease ecologyto infer epidemic or transmission patterns.

Experience conducting biological field sampling, survey design, or participatory epidemiology techniques.

Prior teaching, lecturing, or mentoring experience in higher education or academic research settings.
