We have an exciting opportunity for a BIM Technician to join our Cardiff team. This role would suit someone with some existing experience using Autodesk Revit who is looking to develop their career within BIM and building services engineering. You may already be working in a junior BIM, CAD or digital engineering role, have completed an apprenticeship or relevant qualification, or be looking to transition into building services from another area of the construction industry.

You’ll work on a diverse range of projects across sectors such as Healthcare, Education, Residential, and Commercial, supported by both your local engineering team and our national BIM & Digital Engineering community.

As a BIM Technician, your day-to-day tasks will vary, as we’ll expose you to all aspects of our work so you can discover what suits you. You could be;

• Support the production and coordination of mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using Autodesk Revit.
• Assist with model setup and management, including views, sheets, schedules, legends, tagging, annotations and model information.
• Support model coordination, including reviewing linked architectural, structural and MEP models and assisting with clash detection and coordination reviews using Revit and Navisworks.
• Work within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and project Common Data Environment (CDE) workflows, while learning to read and apply BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), project information requirements and relevant standards.
• Work closely with engineers and other BIM team members to translate engineering designs and mark-ups into coordinated BIM models and drawings, and attend project/BIM coordination meetings as required.
• Carry out basic model and drawing quality checks to help ensure outputs comply with project BIM requirements and Hoare Lea standards, while developing an interest in automation tools such as Dynamo and RF Tools.
• Engage in community events, DE&I initiatives, and knowledge-sharing within the team.
• Where appropriate, gain experience through project meetings and site visits to understand how coordinated BIM information supports construction and installation.

About you

You will have some practical experience using Autodesk Revit and an interest in developing your career within BIM and building services engineering. Ideally, you will have had some exposure to mechanical, electrical or public health (MEP) services through previous employment, an apprenticeship, college/university studies or relevant project experience. You will be self-motivated, eager to learn, highly organised and detail-focused, with a methodical approach to your work.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• Some practical experience using Autodesk Revit, preferably within a building services, MEP or construction environment.
• A basic understanding of building services and how mechanical, electrical and public health systems are coordinated within buildings.
• An understanding of producing 2D drawings and information from a 3D Revit model, with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
• Good communication and collaboration skills, with an eagerness to learn, develop and contribute to BIM and digital delivery processes.
• An interest in BIM coordination, clash detection, model coordination, automation and ongoing professional development.
