About The Opportunity

As our Cultural Development Officer, you will play an important role in strengthening relationships between Council, Traditional Owners and First Nations communities across the Bundaberg Region. You will work across Council and with community stakeholders to support cultural inclusion, appropriate engagement and the delivery of Council’s Indigenous Land Use Agreement commitments, strategies and plans.

From advising on cultural protocols and community engagement to coordinating First Nations cultural activities, you will help embed culturally responsive practices across Council. You will also connect Council teams with local Traditional Owners and Elders, provide advice on Native Title and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage compliance, and contribute to initiatives including NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation activities

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following key selection criteria:

  • Strong connections with and knowledge of Traditional Owner and First Nations communities and groups, with the ability to build respectful and productive relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in community facilitation or development within First Nations, arts or community development environments.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, along with experience in public speaking, training or presenting to large groups.
  • Strong written and technology skills, including experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams to prepare high-quality correspondence.
  • A current open C Class Driver Licence and Working with Children Blue Card, together with the flexibility to work some evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.

Qualifications in Business Administration, First Nations studies, Native Title, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and/or the Arts will be highly regarded, as will knowledge of the Bundaberg Region and an interest in arts and cultural activities.
