Job detail for Technician (Metallurgy)

This role will support a variety of different areas within the Faculty of Science and Engineering with specific focus on the heat treatment of a range of materials and the processing of metals and alloys. The facilities in this area are used to support world-class research, teaching and work with industry.

Part of your role will be to run and maintain a suite of furnaces, working alone or with the support or advice of other technicians, academic staff, or students. You will train users on the operation of the equipment and help with appropriate heat treatments to support their project and material needs.

This role is varied and hands on, with work ranging from preparing specimens, supporting large-scale testing to complex heat treatment schedules, maintaining equipment, training facility users and contributing to innovative research projects.
