About the team

Located within the City Activation branch, the Events Team helps bring the Gold Coast to life by enabling safe, well-coordinated and successful events across the city. The team works across Council and with event organisers, industry partners and community stakeholders to support practical event pathways, strong governance and positive customer outcomes.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to shape how events happen across one of Australia's leading events destinations. You'll influence city-wide approaches to event facilitation, lead a highly capable team and play a key role in improving how Council supports event organisers and the community. If you're passionate about balancing customer outcomes with good governance and practical risk management, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact.  The role works with significant autonomy under the broad direction of the Manager Events, providing expert advice across Council to support whole-of-city event outcomes.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Leading and managing the event facilitation and approvals function to deliver efficient, consistent and business-friendly outcomes.
  • Leading, coaching and developing a high-performing team focused on responsiveness, customer outcomes and practical solutions.
  • Providing expert advice across Council to support clear and consistent event pathways.
  • Overseeing end-to-end event approvals, including timely, coordinated and outcome-focused assessment.
  • Monitoring performance and driving improvements in efficiency, responsiveness and service quality.
  • Working across Council and with external stakeholders to support coordinated planning and facilitation of events.
  • Establishing and maintaining fit-for-purpose systems, frameworks and service standards that streamline processes and reduce barriers.
  • Providing strategic oversight of risk and compliance, applying a balanced and practical approach to support safe event delivery.
  • Driving continuous improvement to simplify processes, remove duplication and enhance the customer experience.
  • Exercising delegated authority to make timely, risk-based decisions that support event outcomes while complying with relevant policies and regulations.

We’re looking for people who have:

  • Significant experience in event management or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, building capability and creating a positive, solutions-focused culture.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to consult, influence and work constructively with internal and external partners.
  • Strong judgement in applying risk, governance and compliance requirements in a practical and outcome-focused way.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex issues clearly and persuasively.
  • An improvement mindset, with the ability to streamline processes, reduce duplication and improve service quality.
