The Group Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Department is responsible for ensuring that Costain operates in a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible manner through the implementation of the Group SHE Management System and Group SHE Plan.

The Group SHE Management System provides a framework and standards for managing safety, health and environmental risks and opportunities and aims to prevent injury, ill health and provide a safe working environment and protect and enhance the natural environment in balance with socio-economic requirements throughout all our activities and operations.

The departments’ purpose is to protect employees, the community, and the environment while ensuring that Costain operates sustainably and complies with relevant legislation and regulations.

Providing specialist coaching and implementation of behavioural principles within the SHE Team, Costain Group and Strategic clients.

Development and management of the Group SHE Management System and specialist areas associated with it including performance evaluation, assurance and health. Providing insights and feedback that shape targeted solutions to maintain and improve SHE performance and standards. Improving individual, team, contract and programme delivery, efficiencies, and business objectives.


  • Implement of the SHE assurance review process, including conducting monthly reviews and addressing root causes of findings
  • Assist with the SHE Assurance Review programme including planning and effective close out of findings
  • Assist with the monitoring, analysis and reporting of Contract SHE performance working with the SHE Contract performance and improvement Lead.
  • Share findings and good practice where relevant across contracts and sectors
  • Work with relevant sector SHE directors regarding the co-ordination and completion of inspections
  • Conduct advisory visits as required to support contracts

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • 5 years related SHE experience.

  • Line Management experience.

  • Tech/Cert IOSH or associate/Grad ISEP or equivalent

Desirable

  • Over 5 years relevant SHE experience in construction/engineering

  • Knowledge of inspection and auditing process

  • CMIOSH/MISEP or equivalent

Essential

  • NEBOSH Construction certificate
  • ISEP certificate or equivalent

Desirable

  • NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
  • Auditing qualifications (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001)
