PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This role will lead and deliver impactful disinformation journalism that helps audiences understand, identify, and challenge false or misleading information. Using data-driven research, OSINT, forensic techniques, and traditional reporting methods, the role investigates how and why disinformation spreads, who is behind it, and its real-world impact. Working collaboratively across BBC teams and language services, the post-holder produces engaging, accessible, multi-platform content in English and local languages that informs audiences and strengthens media literacy.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

This is a chance to join the BBC’s Global Disinformation Unit and produce impactful investigations projects that expose disinformation actors and highlight the real-world harms of disinformation. The team produces outstanding original journalism using data-driven research and OSINT techniques alongside traditional journalism to bring audiences these stories in an accessible, engaging format.

YOUR KEY AND IMPACT: Lead the monitoring and analysis of disinformation trends across Africa using OSINT, analytics tools, and investigative journalism techniques.

Produce and commission impactful, audience-focused stories that demonstrate the real-world effects of disinformation and conspiracy theories.

Coordinate cross-BBC disinformation projects, fostering collaboration between language services, editorial teams, and specialist units.

Create engaging multi-platform content, including video, audio, text, graphics, and on-air reporting, that explains complex issues transparently and accessibly.

Plan and deliver coverage of major news events, supporting teams with resources, expertise, and accurate reporting to counter misinformation.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Proven expertise in OSINT, forensic tools, and data-driven research, delivering high-impact, newsworthy investigations and disinformation reporting.

Strong digital journalism background, producing high-quality written, video, live, and pre-recorded content while translating complex, data-heavy stories into compelling multi-platform storytelling.

Experienced in managing sensitive editorial projects, collaborating with Legal, Editorial Policy, High Risk, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, responsible, and safe reporting.

Skilled at growing and engaging audiences through social media, understanding audience needs, and creating content that resonates across diverse BBC and World Service platforms.

Highly organised and self-motivated, with a proven ability to generate ideas, manage projects remotely, meet tight deadlines, and deliver accurate work under pressure.
