About your team
Enterprise Platforms - Canada Services provides technology delivery, engineering and operational support to Fidelity Clearing Canada (FCC). The team partners closely with FCC Technology, Product, Business and Operations to deliver, maintain and modernize business-critical platforms and services for external clients and internal business lines.
About your role
As Senior Technical Consultant, you will provide senior hands-on technical expertise for the maintenance, support and modernization of .NET-based trading systems within Enterprise Platforms - Canada Services. You will work across legacy application assessment, solution architecture, software engineering and technical delivery, helping the team understand existing codebases, reduce technology risk and define pragmatic modernization paths. A key part of the role will be to leverage AI-enabled engineering and code analysis tools, alongside traditional engineering practices, to accelerate codebase understanding, identify risks and dependencies, support refactoring and remediation, and help define and implement the target modernization approach. You will work closely with Technical Architecture, Product, Business, Operations, Information Security, engineering and vendor teams across FCC and FIL to translate business and operational requirements into robust technical solutions. The role requires strong hands-on .NET engineering capability combined with solution architecture and design skills, with responsibility spanning application maintenance, production support, refactoring, modernization, integration, technical debt reduction and engineering quality. Finance, trading system, capital-markets or investment domain knowledge is a plus.
What you will do
-
Provide senior hands-on technical leadership for the assessment, maintenance, enhancement and modernization of .NET-based trading applications and supporting services.
-
Analyse existing and legacy codebases, application architecture, dependencies and integrations to identify technical risks, maintainability concerns, end-of-life components and modernization opportunities, using AI-enabled code analysis tools where appropriate to accelerate and deepen the assessment.
-
Design and implement robust solutions using C#, .NET/.NET Core, ASP.NET, RESTful APIs, SQL and related Microsoft technologies, applying appropriate architecture and integration patterns.
-
Define and implement pragmatic modernization and refactoring approaches that improve maintainability, reliability, security and scalability while protecting continuity of critical business services, leveraging AI-assisted engineering to accelerate remediation where appropriate.
-
Provide solution architecture and detailed technical design, including application components, APIs, integrations, data flows, deployment patterns and non-functional requirements.
-
Support application maintenance and Level 3 production support, including incident investigation, root-cause analysis, defect remediation, performance troubleshooting and application upgrades.
-
Promote strong engineering practices covering automated testing, code quality, secure coding, CI/CD, observability, documentation, operational readiness and technical debt management, ensuring AI-generated recommendations and code are appropriately reviewed and validated.
-
Work closely with architecture, business, product, operations, security, infrastructure and vendor teams to understand requirements, evaluate solution options and coordinate delivery dependencies.
-
Provide technical estimation, implementation planning and clear communication of technical risks, trade-offs, dependencies and remediation priorities to Canada Services and FCC stakeholders.
-
Leverage AI-enabled engineering tools to accelerate code understanding, dependency and risk analysis, refactoring, modernization, testing and documentation, while applying strong technical judgement and appropriate architecture, security, quality and governance controls.
About you
You bring extensive hands-on software engineering experience with strong expertise in C# and the Microsoft .NET technology stack, including development, maintenance and modernization of complex enterprise applications. You have demonstrated solution architecture and technical design capability and can move comfortably between architecture-level decisions and hands-on code analysis and implementation. You have experience assessing legacy applications, refactoring complex codebases, managing technical debt and remediating obsolete or end-of-life technologies. You understand APIs and integration patterns, SQL and relational databases, secure software development, automated testing, CI/CD and production support for business-critical systems. You are comfortable leveraging AI-enabled software engineering tools for code analysis, codebase understanding, refactoring, testing, documentation and modernization, while critically validating AI-generated outputs and applying appropriate security, architecture and engineering controls. You can troubleshoot complex technical issues, communicate design decisions and trade-offs clearly, and work effectively across distributed business, technology and vendor teams. Experience with AI-assisted software engineering is highly desirable. Finance or financial-services domain knowledge, particularly experience with trading systems, capital markets or investment platforms, is a plus.
