Use AI to assess how you fit

At Azar, which connects people across the globe, we solve problems that are difficult to address with conventional technology but can be solved through machine learning. We work on Azar's recommendation, moderation, and new areas of innovation, with the goal of ensuring that the technology we create contributes to actual service growth.

As a key partner to the Head of AI, you will define the core problems to be solved in Azar's recommendation and moderation areas. You will align perspectives across various functions and leadership, and determine organizational priorities and execution strategies based on business impact and technical feasibility. Based on the latest AI/ML research and technological advancements, you will uncover opportunities that are difficult to identify through existing product requirements alone. You will propose how new technologies can innovate Azar and determine whether they are worth investing in based on technical and business feasibility and long-term technical moats. You will redefine business requirements into AI/ML problems and design solutions by reviewing a wide range of approaches, including deep learning, classical machine learning, statistics, and optimization. Rather than simply adding heuristics and exception handling to satisfy business requirements, you will explore directions close to theoretical optima within given constraints, based on a deep understanding of problem structures and ML theory. You will dive directly into unsolved, high-difficulty ML problems and urgent business issues. You will go beyond offline model performance to verify changes in user experience and real-service metrics, creating long-term product and business results. Beyond the performance of individual models, you will understand the entire ML system where data, training, evaluation, experimentation, serving, and feedback are connected. You will design the structure of the entire system and the roles of each component from an ML perspective to enable fast, reliable experimentation and continuous improvement. You will align research topics and solution directions with other ML Research Scientists and lead each research effort to contribute to a unified technical strategy and product outcome. You will also collaborate with Machine Learning Software Engineers, data engineers, and product organizations to lead technical decision-making so that research results are applied to actual products.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in machine learning or a related field, or equivalent research capability.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing and improving machine learning-based products or services in an industrial setting.
  • Experience in defining ambiguous business problems as clear ML problems and designing solution strategies based on theoretical foundations and experiments.
  • Experience in proactively solving complex and difficult problems to the end, and connecting model performance to improvements in user experience or business metrics.
  • Ability to collaborate with other researchers, engineers, and non-technical staff to align technical directions and lead decision-making persuasively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience publishing papers as a lead author in the main track of at least one of the following: NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.
  • Experience in research related to recommendation systems, reinforcement learning, LLMs, or machine learning theory.
  • Experience in productizing and iteratively improving ML systems in user-facing services handling large-scale traffic.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with global teams in English.
