The Role
Are you ready to join a team that plays a pivotal role in delivering Council’s capital works program and long-term financial sustainability. As our Project Accountant, you’ll be the financial link between Accounting, Assets and the Portfolio Management Office, providing expert analysis, reporting and budget oversight that helps turn projects from concept to completion.
This is a highly autonomous role suited to a proactive finance professional who enjoys problem-solving, driving process improvements and influencing business outcomes in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
What you will be doing:
You will coordinate and manage the financial performance of Council’s capital projects by:
- Managing the full financial lifecycle of Council’s capital projects, including budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and financial reporting.
- Partnering with the Accounting Team, Strategic Asset Management and Portfolio Management Office to coordinate project budgets, funding sources and financial performance.
- Monitoring and managing Council reserve funds, including forecasting income, validating allocations and tracking expenditure against approved budgets.
- Analysing project and financial data to support informed decision-making, long-term financial planning and asset management outcomes.
- Maintaining the integrity of Council’s project finance systems and contribute to process and system improvements across the organisation.
- Supporting broader accounting functions including month-end reporting, reconciliations, audit requirements, acquittals and general ledger maintenance.
What you will bring:
You will bring strong project accounting and financial management experience, with the ability to analyse complex financial data, manage budgets and forecasts, and provide meaningful insights that support strategic decision-making.
You will also bring:
- Experience in project accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manage complex financial and project data.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience using ERP systems such as TechnologyOne, Oracle or similar.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across diverse teams.
- A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement, systems enhancement and delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance or commerce, with CPA or CA ANZ membership (or progress towards qualification).
