Summary

The Guidewire Professional Services organization includes business analysts, functional consultants, and technical integration consultants who work together to help customers and SI vendors implement Guidewire applications at customer sites. Projects are complex and can last from three months to two years depending on specific customer requirements. During the project, the team identifies customer business requirements, formulates solutions leveraging OOTB capabilities and configuration to meet those requirements, and integrates Guidewire applications with other internal or external systems.

Guidewire consultants are expected to spend the majority of their time on-site with customer business and technical teams. This role is primarily based in Japan, though there may be opportunities to work in other regions where Guidewire operates.

Because Guidewire applications are highly configurable to each customer's requirements, a deep understanding of the customer's objectives and requirements is essential.

About this position

The Guidewire Professional Services department is looking for a Technical Architect interested in working as part of a small team of senior consultants on our software implementation projects for property and casualty insurance companies.

The Guidewire Professional Services department includes business analysts, functional consultants, and technical integration consultants who provide support to customers and SI vendors as they implement Guidewire applications. Projects are complex and can last from three months to two years depending on specific customer requirements. During the project, the team identifies customer business requirements, formulates solutions that leverage standard product features while adding configuration as needed to meet requirements, and assists in integrating Guidewire applications with other internal or external systems.

Guidewire consultants spend approximately half of their time on-site with customer business and IT teams, and the other half working remotely. This role is primarily based in Japan, but there are opportunities to work remotely for other regions where we operate.

Guidewire applications are highly flexible and can be configured to meet customer requirements, requiring the ability to fully understand the customer's objectives and needs.

Job Description

  • Collaborate with Japanese customers in Japanese to understand system integration needs, ensure alignment with business requirements, address technical challenges, and create integration design documents.

  • Build relationships with customer infrastructure teams and System Integrators (SI) to coordinate integration solutions.

  • Design and develop system integrations using Guidewire’s integration framework to meet customer needs.

  • Manage data flow between Guidewire applications and external systems to ensure data integrity.

  • Conduct Proof of Concept (PoC) activities to validate integration approaches and demonstrate feasibility.

  • Collaborate with Guidewire’s global teams to share technical insights and align integration strategies.

These roles represent Guidewire Software to our customers. Successful consultants are expected to work closely with customers while ensuring that Guidewire’s product management department is kept informed of product strengths and weaknesses. This position requires a unique combination of technical aptitude, business process understanding, and customer-facing skills.

Required skills and experience

  • Japanese proficiency at JLPT N1 level, understanding of Japanese business customs, and relationship-building skills.

  • English proficiency (TOEIC score of 700–800 or higher, or equivalent qualification/language assessment).

  • A total of 7+ years of software development and consulting experience (at least 3 years in each area).

  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and customer service skills.

  • A flexible and proactive work ethic, with the ability to work independently and in small teams.

  • Extensive experience in Agile development.

  • Technical expertise in:

  • Advanced web applications.

  • 2+ years of object-oriented programming experience (Java, C#, etc.).

  • 2+ years of experience with relational databases and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).

  • A proactive desire to learn about new products and business areas.

  • Ability to lead discussions, respond to customer situations, and deliver integration solutions from design to deployment.

  • Experience in developing technical specifications, implementing them through programming and configuration, and designing, testing, and deploying integrated software systems.

  • Ability to leverage AI and apply it to your work, as well as use data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience or knowledge of the Japanese non-life insurance industry (including policy management, claims management, and other processing).

  • Experience as a systems analyst or consultant.

  • Practical experience in designing, configuring, and testing Guidewire products.

Experience in one or more of the following areas: 1) General modern integration methods such as web services (API) (REST, JSON-RPC, SOAP), message queues, etc. 2) Experience developing enterprise integration middleware and microservice architectures, with general knowledge of software/network security. 3) Experience with VCS and CI/CD (Git, Teamcity, etc.). 4) Experience with observability tools (Datadog, etc.).

Required skills/experience - all:

  • Japanese proficiency at JLPT 1 level and understanding of Japan's business environment, with proven relationship-building skills

  • English fluency demonstrated by TOEIC score of 700800–900 or equivalent, or passing a language assessment

  • Over 7 years of combined experience in software development and consulting, with no less than 3 years

  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and customer service skills

  • Ability to work independently and in small teams, with a flexible and proactive work ethic.

  • Extensive Agile development experience

  • Technical expertise in:

  • Advanced web applications

  • 2+ years of Object-Oriented Programming (e.g., Java, C#)

  • 2+ years of relational databases and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP)

  • Enthusiastic learner of new products and business domains

  • Ability to lead discussions, navigate customer situations, and deliver technical solutions from design to deployment

  • Experience in developing technical specifications, implementing them through programming and configuration, and designing, testing, and deploying integrated software systems

  • Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your role as well as use data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Desired skills/experience:

  • Experience or knowledge of non-life insurance in Japan, including policies, claims, and processing

  • Systems analyst/consultant experience

  • Hands-on experience with Guidewire products for design, configuration, and testing
