The Assistant Registrar Opportunity

The Assistant Registrar serves as a key operational partner within the Dyson Registrar's Office, overseeing course, room, and exam scheduling while supporting a broad range of academic administration functions, including student enrollment, records management, transfer credit processing, and leave and withdrawal administration. Working closely with the Dyson Registrar, this position ensures the effective coordination of systems, processes, and policies across registration, grading, scheduling, and academic records, while contributing to ongoing technology implementations and process improvements. The role exercises significant independent judgment in managing complex scheduling and records-related decisions that directly impact students, faculty, and academic operations. As a trusted member of the registrar team, the Assistant Registrar also supports commencement activities, school-wide communications, and daily office operations, and serves as a representative for the Registrar in their absence. This is a full-time, two-year term position with the possibility of renewal based on funding, performance, and business needs. About The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics & Management

The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is a large and diverse school within the SC Johnson College of Business and is currently ranked number 3 in the Bloomberg BusinessWeek rankings. It includes a total of over 930 undergraduates, over 2000 minors and over 120 graduate students. With over 75 faculty, nationally and internationally known scholars in economics and business disciplines. The land-grant mission of the College, which encompasses research, education, and extension programs, allows for the creation and dissemination of knowledge that makes a difference for students, the citizens of New York, the nation, and people around the globe.

The Office of Student Services (OSS) serves as an essential nexus between the Dyson School’s students and its faculty and staff, overseeing all aspects of the student experience. The Student Services team is responsible for academic advising and student support for approximately 930 undergraduates. The Office works closely with faculty and staff colleagues in career management, diversity & inclusion and leadership programs to provide each Dyson student with an outstanding educational and developmental experience.

  • Manage Academic Records & Enrollment Operations

Oversee the accuracy and integrity of student academic records, transfer credit evaluations, enrollment transactions, academic program data, and leave/withdrawal processes while ensuring compliance with School and University policies.

  • Administer Transfer Credit, Study Abroad, and Student Status Changes

Process transfer credit, AP/IB coursework, study abroad records, concentration and major requests, and student leave, withdrawal, rejoin, and readmission actions.

  • Lead Course, Room, and Exam Scheduling

Own scheduling operations for courses, classrooms, and examinations, balancing faculty preferences, enrollment demands, university policies, and space constraints to support the academic program.

  • Coordinate Registrar Systems and Technology Initiatives

Support the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of registrar-related systems and technologies, including degree audit, curriculum management, transfer credit, and scheduling platforms.

  • Provide Student, Faculty, and Administrative Support

Serve as a primary resource for registrar-related policies and processes, providing guidance on enrollment, degree progress, grading, transfer credit, accommodations, and academic requirements.

  • D rive Process Improvement and Operational Excellence

Participate in business process evaluation and redesign efforts, recommending and implementing improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery.

  • Support School-Wide Operations and Special Projects

Represent the Registrar as needed, assist with commencement planning, manage key communications, prepare reports and data analyses, and contribute to special projects that advance office and school priorities.

  • Collaborate Across the University

Partner with colleagues in the Office of the University Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, Bursar, IT, and other colleges and schools to ensure effective support of students and academic operations.

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 to 4 years relevant experience  or combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess the ability to be an effective team member.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and tactfully with a diverse group of constituents in various units and departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and effective in a fast-paced and high-traffic office environment.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain strict confidentiality to manage information such as grades, financial records, etc.
  • Must be able to plan, organize and coordinate multiple projects; manage events and special assignments with competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to accuracy and detail
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a professional office setting.
  • Illustrate a proven track record of successfully providing exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience with University student records systems.

This is a fixed-term position based in Ithaca, New York, with an initial two-year appointment. The selected candidate will work fully onsite during the initial onboarding and training period, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement thereafter based on business needs and supervisor approval. Core business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the specific schedule determined in collaboration with the supervisor. Renewal beyond the initial two-year term is contingent upon funding availability, business needs, and satisfactory performance.
