CONTRACT TYPE: 12 month FTC
DEPARTMENT: BBC News Kyrgyz
LOCATION: London Broadcasting House. You will be required to go into the office 5 days a week.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £28,000 - £37,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. You will also receive a London Weighting allowance of £5,441.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As part of a collaborative team, you will originate and produce a diverse range of news and current affairs content for BBC platforms. This role demands creativity, editorial judgment, and a commitment to delivering accurate, engaging stories that inform and inspire audiences. You’ll contribute to shaping output that reflects the BBC’s values, ensuring content is relevant, timely, and meets the highest standards of journalism.

YOUR KEY AND IMPACT:

Research, write, translate, edit, and adapt original content in Kyrgyz for TV, website, and social media platforms.

Present programmes and digital content, moderate live streams, and conduct interviews in Kyrgyz and English when required.

Create engaging storytelling for digital and social platforms, demonstrating strong audience understanding and creativity.

Use and adapt to mobile filming, production, and editing tools, while embracing new technologies and workflows.

Collaborate with colleagues and contributors, offering insights on Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, and produce analytical pieces.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Full command of spoken and written Kyrgyz (first or equivalent language) and advanced English, with the ability to communicate effectively in both.

Strong knowledge of Kyrgyz, Central Asian, and international affairs, alongside an understanding of Kyrgyz audience interests.

Experience in digital journalism and social media, with awareness of emerging trends and challenges.

Creativity to make content relevant and engaging for diverse audiences, especially women and young people.

Ability to deliver high-quality journalism across platforms with accuracy, impartiality, and editorial integrity.
