Job Description

As a Lead Game Designer (Combat) for For Honor at Ubisoft Montreal, you will help shape and evolve the game's multiplayer combat experience through balancing, systemic design, and feature development. You will play a key role in maintaining an engaging and rewarding experience by analyzing game systems, adjusting hero performance, and supporting the long-term evolution of the combat meta.

In collaboration with teams, you will participate in combat balancing initiatives while ensuring game systems align with the creative vision and the needs of the players. You will also contribute to knowledge sharing and mentoring within the design team.

What you will do

  • Guide and support ongoing combat balancing initiatives in collaboration with the design team
  • Analyze multiplayer game systems, player behaviors, and combat data to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Adjust hero abilities, move sets, and gameplay properties to support a balanced and engaging experience
  • Evaluate the impact of gameplay changes on the entire combat ecosystem and the player experience
  • Create prototypes, implement, and evolve gameplay adjustments and combat features
  • Collaborate with leadership and design teams to translate creative intentions into game systems
  • Contribute to competitive multiplayer game features and gameplay-related progression systems
  • Identify gameplay issues and develop solutions adapted to combat interactions and game systems
  • Support and guide team members through collaboration, feedback, and knowledge sharing
  • Clearly communicate balancing goals, design decisions, and gameplay updates to the teams
Qualifications

What you bring to the team

  • Experience in designing and balancing combat systems or multiplayer features
  • Strong understanding of competitive games, player motivation, progression systems, and long-term engagement
  • Ability to evaluate gameplay performance and identify balancing opportunities within interconnected systems
  • Experience in prototyping, tuning, and improving gameplay features
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve problems related to gameplay and player experience
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Interest in melee combat systems and hero-centric experiences
