Job Description
As a VFX Artist at Ubisoft Montreal, you will create striking visual moments that enrich gameplay and enhance the player experience. You will help bring immersive worlds to life through environmental effects such as smoke, fire, explosions, snow, water, and other real-time effects.
In this role, you will combine creativity and technical skills to design, integrate, and optimize high-quality special effects directly into the game engine. You will collaborate with multiple teams to ensure a consistent, high-performance, and visually strong experience.
What you will do
- Collaborate with the creative direction to understand the project vision and define VFX priorities
- Create environmental effects using particle systems and original textures
- Work with programming teams to assess needs and support the development of tools
- Design special effects that respect technical constraints while maintaining a strong artistic impact
- Integrate special effects into the game engine and ensure their performance in real-time
- Adjust and optimize effects based on playtest results
- Fix technical issues related to special effects when necessary
- Adapt effects based on feedback from collaborating teams
- Consider community feedback after launch when relevant
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- Demonstrated skills in creating real-time special effects for video games or interactive media
- Mastery of 3D production pipelines including modeling, texturing, lighting, or image processing
- Knowledge of 2D art tools, compositing software, 3D software, and game engines
- Understanding of artistic fundamentals such as lighting, composition, proportion, and color theory
- Ability to apply basic vector mathematics to special effects
- Ability to receive feedback and adjust your work accordingly
- Ability to collaborate effectively with different teams
- Clear communication skills and attention to detail
- Experience using procedural tools or graphic rendering programs such as shaders is an asset
