Internship Duration & Schedule

The Management Aide internship is a six-month assignment. Work schedules and hours may vary by department based on operational needs and the requirements of the assigned position.

Upon successful completion of the initial six-month internship, participants may have an opportunity to compete for an extended internship assignment, depending on City needs, available funding, and the applicable selection process.

  • General Services Department
  • Public Works Department
  • And other City departments based on operational needs and available opportunities

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

The Management Aide Program is an entry-level position open to the following candidates:

  • Recent graduates of a Bachelor's program; or
  • Current graduate students or recent graduates of a Master's program in Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; and
  • Six months of experience in a public sector setting; and
  • A strong interest in pursuing a career in public administration

Notes:

Recent Graduates - Candidates must have graduated within one year of submitting their application.

Expected Graduation Date - Candidates who are expected to graduate with their bachelor's degree before the start of the internship must complete their degree requirements prior to the program’s start date. The Management Aide Internship is an entry-level position for recent graduates who have completed their bachelor's degree, and candidates must have officially graduated by October 2026 to be eligible for consideration.

HOW TO APPLY & EXAM PROCESS

Application Process:

Interested candidates must submit an online application, a supplemental questionnaire, and a resume through www.TorranceCA.Gov/Jobs. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

  • Application period closes: Monday, September 21, 2026 at 12:00 PM (noon)

Interview Process:

  • Panel Interview: Weighted 100% (Tentatively scheduled for the week of September 28, 2026)
  • Only those candidates who best meet the City and Department’s needs will be invited to an interview.
